FTUI Explores Collaboration on National Cybersecurity Certification with BSSN

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), through its cybersecurity research and training unit, IdCARE.UI, held a strategic discussion with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to explore potential collaboration on cybersecurity training and competency certification. The meeting took place at the iCell FTUI Meeting Room on Thursday (08/05) and was attended by representatives from IdCARE.UI, BSSN, and the FTUI Unit for Development and Quality Assurance (UP2M).

The meeting was opened by Mr. Tides Anugraha, Manager of IdCARE.UI, who began the discussion by presenting the potential contributions of IdCARE.UI in supporting the development of human resource capacity in cybersecurity, including through training and certification programs. IdCARE.UI has previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and conducted joint research with BSSN, and has also been a preferred graduate study destination for BSSN employees at the UI master’s program.

“This collaboration is a strategic step in bridging the needs of industry and academia in cybersecurity. With the support of BSSN, we hope to produce more certified talents who can directly contribute to strengthening the nation’s digital defense,” explained Mr. Tides Anugraha.

Representing BSSN, Mr. Agus Banudi Suyo and Mr. Herbakti Nugroho shared that BSSN has established a Professional Certification Institute (LSP) since 2021 in collaboration with the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), and has developed 13 types of cybersecurity certifications focusing on basic and intermediate levels. To date, a total of 1,473 participants have been tested, with 1,271 of them declared competent. The Junior Pentester certification is among the most in demand. BSSN’s national target is to train 18,000 government personnel, although currently, the program has reached around 8,000 individuals.

“We warmly welcome this initiative from FTUI through IdCARE.UI. Certification is vital to ensure human resources’ readiness to face cyber threats. Collaboration with academic institutions like UI is crucial to expanding our reach and accelerating the achievement of national targets,” said Mr. Agus Banudi Suyo.

The discussion also covered opportunities for FTUI’s academic community, including lecturers and members of the IdCARE.UI teaching community (CAMP), to obtain certification through a special collaboration scheme. BSSN is open to using the Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) mechanism for non-government training conducted at UI, with competency assessments still carried out by BSSN.

Mr. Herbakti also emphasized the importance of preparing a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) document outlining the scope of activities, including training based on the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) and the potential integration with international certifications such as EC-Council. Additionally, BSSN is working to establish an Authorized Training Center (ATC) and develop a professional program in cyber engineering.

As a follow-up, both parties will map the collaboration framework for drafting the PKS and align the training curriculum with national standards (SKKNI) and industry needs.

Through this initiative, FTUI and BSSN reaffirm their commitment to fostering the development of certified cybersecurity professionals ready to meet the challenges of national digital defense.
