A team of students from the Industrial Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), known as Lagi Liburan Films, has advanced to the Grand Final of the Inspiring Asia Micro Film Festival 2025 after winning 1st Place in the Indonesia Regional Competition.
Lagi Liburan Films highlights the issue of youth mental health through a short film titled “Mania Dunia Nia” (Nia’s World of Mania), which explores the impact of digital distraction and social media pressure that exacerbate anxiety and social isolation among teenagers.
The short film employs an anxious realism approach, utilizing handheld shaky cam techniques, fast-paced editing, and layered sound design to evoke a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere—mirroring the mental state of the main character, Nia. Graphic visualizations of stacked notifications on screen serve as a metaphor for digital pressure invading personal space.
Lagi Liburan Films consists of seven FTUI students: Januar David Ciu (Class of 2024), Fayanna Ailisha Davianny (Class of 2023), Desak Agung Made Devina Indriani (Class of 2023), Ahmad Ghazi Nayana (Class of 2024), I Gede Pradhana Putra Wiwekananda (Class of 2024), Sheren Angelica (Class of 2024), and Andhika Keanendra Darmawan (Class of 2024).
“Through this film, we want to remind people that behind every smile or social media post, there might be an unseen emotional struggle. We hope this piece encourages viewers to pause for a moment amid the digital noise and truly see the human behind the screen,” said Fayanna Ailisha Davianny.
The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the students’ work and achievement.
“This accomplishment shows that FTUI students excel not only in engineering and science but also in the arts—using creativity to voice relevant social issues. We are proud that the Lagi Liburan Films team has brought honor to FTUI at the national level while inspiring young generations to be more aware of mental health,” said Prof. Kemas.
This success stands as tangible proof that cross-disciplinary collaboration, creativity, and social awareness can lead to meaningful works with far-reaching impact. Through this competition, FTUI students demonstrate that technology and art can coexist harmoniously to create positive change in society.
The Inspiring Asia Micro Film Festival 2025 carries the theme “To Be Seen,” focusing on youth mental health issues. The competition involved 59 teams from various universities and creative communities across Indonesia. The Asian Grand Final will take place in Singapore on October 25, 2025.
