The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), explored potential academic and research collaboration with Université Paris-Saclay during an official visit on Tuesday (04/11). The meeting was led by Dr. Nyoman Suwartha, S.T., M.T., M.Agr., Manager for Education at FTUI, and attended by representatives from Université Paris-Saclay.
During the discussions, Prof. Rachid Bennacer, Vice Rector for Research of Université Paris-Saclay, introduced several of the university’s flagship programs. Université Paris-Saclay comprises 17 Graduate Schools, 1 Institute, and 3 Study Programs under the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. Currently, Université Paris-Saclay ranks 68th globally according to Times Higher Education 2026 and 70th in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2026.
Université Paris-Saclay also offers scholarships for Master’s programs amounting to EUR 10,000 for 10 months, including transportation allowance, awarded to 120 Master’s students annually. Meanwhile, scholarships for the Doctoral program provide EUR 2,100 per month to more than 350 PhD students each year. Funding opportunities are also available for researchers, who must be invited by a Paris-Saclay professor, for periods ranging from 6 months to 1 year with a salary of EUR 2,800.
Potential collaboration between FTUI and Université Paris-Saclay includes the signing of an Agreement of Intent (AoI) for a joint PhD program or cotutelle PhD scheme. In the field of Metallurgy, Université Paris-Saclay also expressed interest in developing a Double Degree Program at the undergraduate level.
Responding to the meeting, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FTUI, stated “Collaboration with Université Paris-Saclay is a strategic step for FTUI in expanding our international academic and research network. We see great potential in developing a joint doctoral program and fostering interdisciplinary knowledge exchange that will strengthen FTUI’s position as a world-class engineering faculty. Through this collaboration, we hope to build research and educational synergies that contribute to the advancement of science and technology in both institutions.”
The meeting was also attended by representatives from FTUI, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, DEA., Head of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Research Unit; Dr. Aries Subiantoro, S.T., M.Sc., Manager for Research, Innovation, and Community Engagement; Prof. Dr.Eng. Arief Udhiarto, S.T., M.T., IPU., Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering; and Dr. Deni Ferdian, S.T., M.Sc., Head of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
From Université Paris-Saclay, attendees included Alena Bogdanova, Coordinator for International Partnerships and Erasmus+; Antoine Bricout, University Cooperation and Education Attaché, French Embassy; Julien Bourgeois, Science and Technology Cooperation Attaché, French Embassy; and Gema Akbar Pratama, Deputy Attaché for University Cooperation.
