Invitation to participate in SDME2020

Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME)

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), part of Dubai government in the United Arab Emirates, would like to introduce their International initiative aiming at engaging academic institutions in further energy efficiency research.

The Solar Decathlon, which is an international competition wherein universities from all over the world meet to design, build and operate a grid-connected solar powered, fully functional house. The Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 was launched during the final ceremony of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, which took place in October 2015. We have announced 10 different contests of SDME which are as follows:

  • Architecture
  • Engineering & Construction
  • Energy Management
  • Comfort Conditions
  • House Functioning
  • Sustainable Transportation
  • Sustainability
  • Vegetation & Hardscaping
  • Communication and Innovation

The prizes of the Solar Decathlon ME totaling 10 million AED. (Approx. 2.8 Million USD). Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) requires teams to design houses that are driven by the climate in the Middle East region which experiences high temperatures, humidity and dust. The Solar Decathlon Middle East that will take place in Dubai in 2020. The first SDME 2018 had 15 teams and over 23 Universities in partnership to compete together for the prestigious win.
