FTUI Doctoral Research Develops a Model on the Impact of Knowledge Management on Innovation Capability and Organizational Performance in the Heavy Equipment Industry

A doctoral student of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (DTI FTUI), held an open doctoral promotion session on Thursday (January 8) at the 2nd Floor Auditorium of the IDE Building, FTUI Depok. During the session, Ahmad Anwari presented his dissertation entitled “Development of a Model on the Impact of Knowledge Management on Innovation Capability and Organizational Performance in the Heavy Equipment Industry.”

The research conducted by Ahmad was motivated by the critical role of knowledge management in enhancing the competitiveness of the heavy equipment industry, which is currently facing dynamic market conditions and rapid technological advancements. These challenges encouraged the study to focus on technical and systemic issues within the industry, with the aim of producing more optimal and applicable solutions through a structured scientific and engineering-based approach.

“This study focuses on analyzing the influence of key parameters on overall system performance and reliability. Through the testing and modeling processes conducted, the research provides insights into the most optimal operational conditions and identifies potential improvements in system performance,” Ahmad explained.

The research process involved the collection and analysis of data from companies operating in the heavy equipment industry sector. The data were processed using quantitative methods to construct a model of relationships among variables. The findings indicate that innovation capability serves as a critical mediating factor between knowledge management and organizational performance, thereby strengthening a company’s position in facing industrial competition.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the dissertation presented. According to him, the study not only demonstrates strong academic rigor but also highlights the practical relevance of Industrial Engineering research in addressing strategic challenges in the industrial sector. “The approach employed successfully integrates knowledge management, innovation capability, and organizational performance in a comprehensive manner, making a significant contribution to the development of managerial practices and the enhancement of industrial competitiveness,” he stated.

Through the open doctoral promotion session, Ahmad Anwari was officially awarded a doctoral degree with a GPA of 3.98 and the distinction of Cum Laude. He is recorded as the 27th Doctoral graduate of the Industrial Engineering Study Program and the 646th Doctoral graduate of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia.

The open doctoral promotion session was chaired by the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., as Chair of the Session, with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Amalia Suzianti, S.T., M.Sc., serving as Promotor, and Dr. Ir. Armand Omar Moeis, S.T., M.Sc., as Co-Promotor. The panel of examiners consisted of Prof. Dr. Ir. Hasrini Sari, S.T., M.T.; Dr. Putri Mega Desiana, S.E., M.M.; Dr. Komarudin, S.T., M.Eng.; Dr. Ir. Zulkarnain, S.T., M.T.; and Dr. Ir. Andri Dwi Setiawan, S.T., M.Sc.
