FTUI Explores Global FinTech Program Collaboration with Chung-Ang University

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) is exploring opportunities for academic collaboration with Chung-Ang University, South Korea, through the Virtual Convergence College (VCC) program, which focuses on the development of Global FinTech. The discussion took place on Tuesday (March 10) at the DGB Room, Dean’s Building, FTUI. This initiative aims to provide FTUI students with opportunities to participate in international student exchange programs while strengthening their competencies in financial technology.

During the meeting discussing the proposed collaboration, Chung-Ang University introduced the Virtual Convergence College (VCC) as an academic unit that develops multidisciplinary programs based on technology and digital innovation. One of its flagship programs is the Global FinTech Program, designed to produce future experts in financial technology through interdisciplinary learning and international experience.

Through this collaboration, students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia—particularly from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering Study Program—will have the opportunity to participate in a 12-month exchange program at VCC. The program is designed to provide both academic and practical experiences in the fintech sector, including insights into financial technology, digital innovation, and developments in the global financial industry.

The Global FinTech Program also offers full scholarships for selected students, covering airfare and living expenses during their participation in the program in South Korea. Upon completing the program, participants will receive an official certificate from Chung-Ang University as recognition of their participation and academic achievement.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., welcomed this collaboration as a strategic step toward strengthening the internationalization of education at FTUI.

“This collaboration opens an excellent opportunity for FTUI students to gain valuable academic and international experience, particularly in the rapidly evolving fintech sector. We hope this partnership will broaden students’ global perspectives and encourage the emergence of innovations in technology and digital finance,” said Prof. Kemas.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Virtual Convergence College at Chung-Ang University, Prof. Jong Hyun Wi, Ph.D., expressed his hope that this collaboration would strengthen academic cooperation between the two institutions while fostering the development of global talent in financial technology.

“Through the Global FinTech Program at the Virtual Convergence College, we aim to provide students from various countries with the opportunity to learn in an international environment and understand the global development of the fintech industry. We hope that our collaboration with FTUI will open more opportunities for academic partnerships and innovation in the future,” said Prof. Jong Hyun.

Similar programs have previously been implemented by Chung-Ang University in collaboration with several countries in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam. The successful implementation of these programs has become the basis for expanding partnerships with other educational institutions, including Universitas Indonesia.

Through this exploratory collaboration, FTUI hopes to expand its international network while providing more opportunities for students to develop global competencies, particularly in the rapidly growing field of financial technology in the era of digital transformation.
