Students accepted to the program earn up to seven (7) units of course credit, choosing from more than 50 courses in a variety of subject areas. The classes are small and students work closely with their instructors. A distinctive aspect of the programming is the opportunity to tour the graduate schools and learn about graduate study in North America. Workshops are available on how to write effective application essays and how to interview successfully for graduate programs. Participants who take advantage of these resources leave the campus prepared to identify graduate programs that are a good fit for them and to submit successful applications.
The program make sure to balance academics with opportunities to have fun outside the classroom. Each student in the program is assigned an American student mentor, or “buddy,” to welcome them to campus life and help them explore the St. Louis region. Multiple excursions take students to museums, professional baseball games, amusement parks, and local monuments. It doesn’t take long to leave the city limits and this year for the first time they will offer an excursion to visit a family farm and see rural America.
