The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), continues to expand its international network by strengthening its partnership with Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The meeting focused on developing collaboration in education, research, and student mobility, while also building on the partnership established between the two institutions in 1998.
The FTUI delegation was led by FTUI Dean, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., accompanied by Ir. Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Associate Dean for International Partnerships and Education; Dr.-Ing. Ir. Ova Candra Dewi, S.T., M.Sc., GP, IPU, Head of the Department of Architecture; and Dr. Ir. Ahmad Zakiyuddin, S.T., M.Eng., Head of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
One of the main agenda items was the refinement of the Architecture double-degree program, particularly in aligning the curriculum and credit transfer scheme with academic regulations and Australian student visa requirements. This discussion is expected to support more effective program implementation while providing students with an optimal international academic experience.
In addition, the two institutions explored opportunities to develop an integrated undergraduate-to-master’s pathway in engineering, as well as international short courses focusing on subtropical architecture. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to expand cross-border learning opportunities and enrich students’ academic perspectives through global exposure.
FTUI Dean, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized that international partnerships play an important role in improving the quality of education and strengthening research capacity.
“Our partnership with QUT presents a strategic opportunity for FTUI to develop educational programs that are increasingly integrated with the international academic ecosystem. We hope this collaboration will not only expand student mobility but also promote relevant curriculum development, impactful joint research, and improvements in the quality of scientific publications at the global level,” he said.
In the field of research, FTUI and QUT discussed opportunities for joint PhD supervision, scientific publication development, and the exploration of potential funding sources for collaborative research. The two institutions also considered organizing online workshops to bring together faculty members and doctoral students to identify complementary areas of expertise, align research topics, and establish opportunities for sustainable collaboration.
Through this meeting, FTUI and QUT reaffirmed their commitment to following up on curriculum alignment, expanding student mobility opportunities, and strengthening collaboration in education and research. The partnership, which has spanned more than two decades, is expected to continue growing into a strategic collaboration that delivers tangible benefits to the academic communities of both institutions.
Strengthening this partnership also reflects FTUI’s commitment to enhancing its global competitiveness, fostering innovation, and generating meaningful academic contributions to the advancement of science and technology at the international level.
