Achieving the Title of FTUI Outstanding Student 2025, M. Iqbal Banoza Apriansyah Prepares to Advance to the UI Level Outstanding Student Competition

On Tuesday (18/2), the Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service Unit of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), in collaboration with the Academic and Professional Division of the FTUI Student Executive Board (BEM FTUI), once again held an open presentation session for the Selection of FTUI’s Main Outstanding Student (Pilmapres FTUI) 2025. This year, Muhammad Iqbal Banoza Apriansyah, a student of the Electrical Engineering Study Program, class of 2022, was crowned as FTUI’s 2025 Main Outstanding Student.

Dr. rer. pol. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs and Alumni, stated, “The Outstanding Student award represents the pinnacle of student achievement. We strive to revitalize this event so that more top talents can compete at higher levels. The last time FTUI won the UI-level Outstanding Student title was in 2022 through Dhifan Kemal, a Mechanical Engineering student from the class of 2019. Dhifan continued a winning tradition that had been interrupted for 29 years. Before Dhifan, Prof. Riri Fitri Sari had also achieved this prestigious title.”

Dr. Romadhani further emphasized that participating in Pilmapres is not merely a competition for students, but also an opportunity to build a high-value track record and enrich their academic and professional portfolios. “We hope that the five students competing in the open session of Pilmapres FTUI can deliver their best presentations. Regardless of the winner, we will provide maximum support in preparing for the Universitas Indonesia level Pilmapres, with great hope that they can advance to the national level and bring back a proud achievement for FTUI,” he concluded.

Iqbal presented his scientific paper titled “AirShare: AI-Integrated IoT-Based Air Quality Detection Tool for Vehicle Route Optimization and Green Public Space Provision in Jakarta.” AirShare is a mobile app innovation designed to integrate IoT hardware capabilities as an air quality detector and software. By utilizing machine learning models, it generates air pollution mapping in Jakarta and maps green open spaces, thereby providing healthy route recommendations for Jakarta residents on the move.

“AirShare was developed due to the existing gap in air quality detector innovations, which currently only provide information without offering actionable solutions for the public. AirShare stands out by optimizing healthy routes, integrating with government health services, and establishing partnerships with health insurance companies that offer products related to air pollution impact,” explained Iqbal.

The open presentation session of Pilmapres FTUI was held at the Makara 04 Smart Meeting Room FTUI, featuring three FTUI faculty members as the panel of judges. These judges were Dr. Nadhilah Reyseliani, S.T., M.T., a lecturer from the Department of Chemical Engineering; Aulia Qisthi, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering; and Annisa Marlin Masbar Rus, Ph.D., a lecturer from the Department of Industrial Engineering.

During the presentation session, five FTUI students who had passed the department-level selection showcased their research and innovations. Besides Iqbal, the other participants competing at the faculty level included Ruth Debora Natalia Pardede from the Industrial Engineering Study Program, Ashka Rizqi Rahutomo from the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Muhammad Nur Ihsan from the Industrial Engineering Study Program, and Ferdian Irwan Prihandoko from the Naval Architecture Study Program. Each participant presented their ideas and innovations, which they had formulated into scientific papers. Before this stage, these five students had undergone department-level selection before advancing to the faculty-level competition.

On a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., extended his congratulations to Muhammad Iqbal Banoza Apriansyah. “Iqbal will represent FTUI in the Universitas Indonesia level Outstanding Student Selection. This competition is not just a form of appreciation for academic achievements, but also a platform for students to develop their potential, deepen their interest in scientific fields, and make real contributions to the advancement of science and technology in Indonesia. As an educational institution committed to producing excellent generations, FTUI will continue to provide full support to outstanding students, both in competitions at the UI level and up to the national level, with the hope that they will become future innovators and leaders who bring positive change to the nation.”

Pilmapres, or the Outstanding Student Selection, is a student competition organized annually by the National Achievement Center under the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. Its objective is to recognize the best students who are ready to become agents of change in building a better Indonesia.
