MOTIVATION
This advanced course aims to provide a solid formation on the use of advanced cement and polymer based materials, appropriate techniques and design guidelines for the strengthening of the built environment.
PARTICIPANTS
The course is intended for all industry and research professionals involved in strengthening of reinforced concrete structures: engineers and designers in the public or private sector; engineers at construction companies, at material suppliers or at research institutes; professionals interested in the field of developing and applying advanced strengthening techniques in the construction sector; PhD students, scientists and teachers seeking knowledge on the design of structural strengthening.
Participants will acquire the capability of defining inspection and diagnosis strategies, selecting the proper materials and strengthening techniques, and designing the strengthening solutions by using recent guidelines and advanced computer simulations based on the finite element method.
ORGANIZERS
The course will is organized by the Structural Composites Research group of the Dep. of Civil Eng. of Minho University (http://www.sc.civil.uminho.pt), a group with a solid background on structural strengthening by using fibre reinforced cement composites (FRCC) and fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) systems, as well as on the development of software for advanced numerical modeling.
VENUE AND LANGUAGE
The Advance Course is taking place at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Minho, located in the historical Portuguese city of Guimarães.
English is the official language of the course.
