Closing the year 2025, the arts community of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) alumni united to present a show-choir performance titled Tribute to Ismail Marzuki. The event was held on Saturday, 15 November 2025, from 14.00–16.00 WIB at the Auditorium of the National Library of Indonesia, Jakarta, attended by 200 FTUI alumni from the 1970s to the 2000s. Also present were the Dean of FTUI, the Chair of the ILUNI UI Advisory Board, and three distinguished guests: Prof. Hendri DS Budiono representing ILUNI FT, Dr. Bambang Dwipoyono, Sp.OG., representing ILUNI FKUI, and Astri Nurdin, S.H., representing ILUNI FHUI.
This performance was a collaboration of three FTUI alumni arts communities—The Singing Engineers, Dancing Engineers, and Teater 04 JayaGaya—showcasing an integrated performing arts production that combined choral singing, dance choreography, and theatrical acting on a single stage. This format posed complex artistic challenges, yet offered an engaging experience for both performers and the audience, as it required strong synergy between music, movement, and dramatic expression.
The show choir drew inspiration from two Indonesian masters: Ismail Marzuki, a legendary composer whose works are deeply rooted in patriotism and nationalism, and Utuy Tatang Sontani, a playwright and literary figure known for works filled with social criticism and humanistic values.
In this performance, FTUI alumni adapted the play Awal dan Mira by Utuy Tatang Sontani, a drama portraying post-independence social realities through themes of inequality, the impact of war, and the tension between idealism and the realities of life.
For the initiators, the show was not only an artistic tribute but also a creative space for cross-disciplinary exploration—bridging music, theater, and dance as a form of homage to Indonesia’s cultural heritage. The event also served as a special dedication to the Universitas Indonesia community, especially the FTUI family.
The performance doubled as a charity concert, inviting the audience to contribute to a fundraising initiative. A total of Rp55 million was collected, all of which will be donated to the Mata Air Biru Foundation, established in 2003 by FTUI alumni. The foundation focuses on providing scholarships for FTUI students in need. This concert stands as a tangible expression of alumni solidarity in supporting their juniors.
FTUI Dean, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the event. “This performance demonstrates that the FTUI alumni community possesses strong creative energy and a deep commitment to advancing education. The artistic collaboration not only enriches our academic culture but also contributes directly through donations to support FTUI students. I warmly welcome this initiative and hope that events like this will continue to strengthen alumni networks and generate positive impact for the FTUI community.”
