On Saturday, February 24, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) conducted an Open House for the FTUI International Class Program. The event aimed to provide a deeper insight into information about the International Class Program within the FTUI environment. The event invited students, parents, and teachers from several schools in the Jabodetabek area and was held in person at room K301, GK Building FTUI.
The event commenced with a welcome address from the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., and featured several speakers, including the Head of the Modernization and Internationalization Unit of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., the Head of the FTUI International Office, Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, and the Head of the UI PMB Office, Dr. Gunawan, S.T., M.T., along with four FTUI alumni from the International Class Program.
These alumni are Jiwo Sukarno, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk., Zahra Zafira, Geothermal Business Development Specialist at PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), Andika Ibnu Praditya, Engineer Construction Planning at PERTAMINA Retail, and Excell Yochanan, Founder & CEO of PT Ematey Magnifiko Kolonia.
“Alumni are crucial, especially when entering the workforce. By participating in the Double Degree program, students will have peers for the two years they study at FTUI. So, when they return after studying for two years abroad, they won’t lose the alumni network,” said Prof. Heri.
During the talk show session with the alumni, Zahra explained her reasons for choosing the FTUI International Class Program, saying, “I attended a public school and was encouraged to attend a public university as well. However, at the same time, I wanted international exposure. After researching, I found the right place, which is the FTUI International Class Program.”
“The most impressive thing for me studying in this program is personal development. Because at that time, it was my first time going abroad, and I tried to adapt. So, I gained many skills that are very useful in the professional world. I also learned how to collaborate ideally, especially with friends from other countries,” explained Jiwo Sukarno about his experience in the FTUI International Class Program.
“Now that I have returned from abroad, I can apply the knowledge I gained to my environment in the country. In the office, I have applied an international mentality to my colleagues. For example, being more disciplined at work, working according to each person’s job description, improving teamwork, and implementing the ethics of state-owned enterprises in our daily lives,” Andika Ibnu Praditya explained what he gained from the FTUI International Class Program.
“In Architecture, we have a lot of presentations, both internally and externally. So, I became more accustomed to answering questions and debating in English. Especially in the professional world, where we handle many projects abroad, the knowledge from the International Class Program supports us in making multiple presentations in front of clients,” Excell Yochanan explained the benefits of studying in the International Class Program for him.
Following that, a Q&A session was conducted between the participants of the Talk Show and the speakers. The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs from FTUI to the speakers.
