BKK PII 2025 Annual Meeting at UI: A Strategic Collaboration Platform for Indonesian Chemical Engineers

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) successfully hosted the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Chemical Engineering Division of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia (BKK PII) on September 25–26, 2025. The two-day event strengthened BKK PII’s role as a professional home for Indonesian chemical engineers and as a hub for collaboration among academia, industry, government, and entrepreneurs in addressing the challenges of sustainable industrialization.

The first day, held at the Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) Building, FTUI, was attended by more than 254 participants representing academia, industry, government, and entrepreneurship. The event began with welcoming remarks from the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering FTUI, Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, S.T., M.T., followed by an introduction to BKK PII by Dr. Ir. Sripeni Inten Cahyani, M.M., IPM., ASEAN Eng.

The meeting was officially opened by Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., who emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration for Indonesian chemical engineers.

“A forum like the BKK PII Annual Meeting must serve as a strategic platform to strengthen competencies, expand networks, and foster cross-sector innovation so that our chemical engineers can lead at the global level,” said Prof. Kemas.

The first day’s keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, DEA, with the theme “The Role of Chemical Engineers in Safe and Sustainable Industrialization.” In his presentation, Prof. Widodo highlighted the need for a paradigm shift in chemical engineering education toward low-carbon innovation and the adoption of sustainable technologies.

Following the plenary session, participants joined the Technical and Scientific Conference, which featured 63 presenters and 12 posters across seven parallel rooms and eight contemporary topic clusters. These covered key issues such as process safety, chemitechnopreneurship, geothermal technology, product and process design, lubricants, and the application of artificial intelligence in the chemical industry.

The day also featured the final round of the CHEEF (Chemical Engineering Entrepreneurship Festival) student innovation competition, the launch of the book “Menyusuri Jejak Emas Putih: Kisah Garam dari Empat Penjuru Eropa” by Prof. Misri Gozan, and community activities including charity for orphans in collaboration with BSI and a tree planting event on the FTUI campus. In the evening, a gala dinner concluded the first day, featuring the announcement of competition winners, Best Presenter and Best Poster Awards, and the handover of hosting duties for the 2026 Annual Meeting to the Chemical Engineering Department of ITB.

Day Two: Strategic Forum and National Collaboration

The second day took place at Balai Purnomo UI, attended by 435 participants. The session opened with remarks from the Chair of BKK PII, who presented recommendations from three prior Focus Group Discussions (FGDs): Process Safety (FTUI), CCS/CCUS Implementation (PHE), and National Cosmetic Resilience (ParagonCorp).

Representing the Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Vice Rector I of UI, emphasized that the BKK PII forum should not stop at formality but must produce tangible outcomes that benefit the professional development of Indonesian chemical engineers.

The session continued with keynote speeches from Laode Sulaeman, S.T., M.T. (Director General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources) and Wiwik Pudjiastuti (Director of Upstream Chemical Industry, Ministry of Industry), discussing the policy direction for the utilization and downstreaming of national natural resources.

A strategic talk show followed, featuring speakers from various industrial sectors, including Dr. Taufik Adityawarman (Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional), Dr. Arief Haendra (Director of Business Development, PT Inalum), Ir. Adi Priyanto (Director of Retail and Commerce, PT PLN Persero), and Dahlia, S.T. (VP of Development and Downstreaming, PT Bukit Asam).

Subsequent agenda items included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BKK PII and KPI, the launch of the book “Project Managementauthored by Ir. Eddy Herman Harun, Prof. Dr. Ir. P.D.K. Wulan, and Ir. Riezqa Andika, Ph.D., and the Tour de UI activity using Universitas Indonesia’s signature yellow electric buses, joined by more than 100 participants.

As the closing event, the Indonesian Chemical Engineering Education Association (APTEKIM) hosted a workshop featuring Ir. Johan Budi (former spokesperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission) and Ir. Triharyo Soesilo, M.Eng. (Carbon Project Development Specialist), discussing integrity, anti-corruption, and engineering economics in carbon projects.

With its comprehensive series of programs, the 2025 BKK PII Annual Meeting at UI successfully reinforced BKK PII’s role as a strategic collaboration platform for Indonesian chemical engineers. The forum also showcased FTUI’s tangible contribution in facilitating cross-sector dialogue toward safe, green, and sustainable industrialization.
