To bridge academic knowledge with professional practice, hundreds of students from the Department of Architecture, Universitas Indonesia (UI)—including those from the Architecture and Interior Architecture study programs—participated in a field study at the Citra Garden Bintaro residential area on Monday, May 19. The activity carried the theme “Bridging Theory into Practice“ and aimed to provide future architects with hands-on learning experiences.
This visit is part of an educational approach in architecture that emphasizes the importance of real-world observation, case studies, and direct interaction with industry professionals. Students were not only introduced to the final results of area planning but also encouraged to understand the entire design, construction, and property management process.
During the visit, students explored various aspects of the design of Citra Garden Bintaro, from layout and zoning to the management of public spaces and greenery. They also studied technical aspects of building comprehensively, including structure, foundations, material selection, construction efficiency, and on-site development processes.
Interactive discussions between students, faculty members, and the professional team from Citra Garden Bintaro formed an essential part of this activity. It is hoped that this direct experience will inspire the emergence of young architects who are adaptive, creative, and ready to face real-world challenges.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, expressed his appreciation for the activity. “Field studies like this are crucial in strengthening students’ understanding of the real-world context in architecture. We want our graduates to not only excel in theory but also to be capable of grasping the complex and evolving dynamics of professional practice,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Project Leader of Citra Garden Bintaro, Dicky Rampengan, also welcomed the initiative by UI. He considered the activity a positive synergy between academia and the property industry. “We hope this experience allows students to observe topics relevant to their studies in real-life situations, and becomes a valuable foundation for their future,” said Dicky.
Citra Garden Bintaro is a modern European-style residential area developed with high standards in planning, infrastructure, and commercial facilities. Strategically located at the border of South Jakarta and South Tangerang, the area targets modern families prioritising comfort, accessibility, and quality of life.
