4 FTUI Virtual Laboratories Ready to Serve Student Practicum Activities

To support the Education modernization program, Four Virtual Laboratories of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) have been completed. FTUI held a Dissemination of the 2022 FTUI Virtual & Remote Lab Development Results (29/11) to introduce these four laboratories in the FTUI Smart Meeting Room.

In 2022, the Faculty of Engineering received grants from the Universitas Indonesia to develop 4 new virtual labs from 4 study programs with a total of Rp. 700 Million. This educational or teaching virtual lab program was made with the aim that initially a practicum system that normally runs conventionally when facing a pandemic with limitations can still carry out practicums using technology that has been developed. So that students have the opportunity to do practicum using a virtual lab.

In his remarks, the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., said “FTUI currently has an education modernization program, so it is hoped that the results of this dissemination can support the program and can encourage other labs to participate in creating virtual labs, MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses) and other programs.”

“In the future, this virtual lab is expected to become a teaching lab product. Seeing that the Faculty of Engineering often gets lab visits, virtual labs can be an option when the lab visit schedule is getting busier. So this can be a program that not only takes advantage of the existing physical lab, with the presence of students but can also use the virtual lab if needed. In addition, the virtual lab as a teaching lab product has commercial value, so it can be useful for many parties in the future,” said Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU.

As for the labs that this year received grants as well as being resource persons for the Dissemination of FTUI Virtual & Remote Lab Development Results activities, there are 4 labs from 4 departments, namely the Civil Engineering Department, construction virtual laboratory, Chemical Engineering Department, process operation unit virtual laboratory, Mechanical Engineering Department, CNC milling virtual laboratory, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, basic chemistry virtual laboratory.
