FTUI Distributes Donations for Cianjur Earthquake Victims Through the #FTUIPeduli Program

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held a humanitarian action #FTUIPeduli for victims affected by the earthquake in Cianjur Regency. The donation collection process for humanitarian action #FTUIPeduli was opened for one month after the earthquake that rocked Cianjur until the end of December 2022. The total funds collected amounted to Rp. 50,000,000 (fifty million rupiahs) and were distributed in the form of basic necessities, toiletries and washing equipment, medicines, groceries, and vegetables.

Assistance was handed over directly by Dr.rer.pol. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research and Community Service FTUI accompanied by BEM FTUI to a post located at one of the points where the earthquake shook, namely Gasol Village, Cugenang District on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

“#FTUIPeduli is a form of spontaneous community service from the FTUI extended family in response to the disaster that occurred last November in Cianjur. Thank God, in just one month, we managed to raise Rp 50,000,000 and now we have distributed it. Before distributing it, we had previously surveyed to find out the needs of the people affected by the Cianjur earthquake. Hopefully, this distribution of donations can ease the burden on the people of Cianjur who were affected by the earthquake,” said Dr. Romadhani Ardi.

Distribution of donations was symbolically handed over to Mr. Toni, Head of Gasol Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur. On the same occasion, Mr. Toni expressed his gratitude for the assistance that had been given, “Representing the Gasol villagers, I would like to thank you very much for the assistance that has been given from the UI Faculty of Engineering. Hopefully, this assistance can be a source of encouragement for us in going through the post-earthquake process.”

In addition to distributing donations, the FTUI BEM who also attended the location also held trauma healing activities in the form of games to entertain more than 100 local children after the aftermath of the earthquake. Eleven student representatives from BEM FTUI held two games, namely ‘The Boss Says’ and ‘Chain Sarong’ which were enthusiastically welcomed by Gasol village children. The children who managed to win the game then received prizes in the form of snacks and several sarong boxes. At the end of the game, the FTUI BEM distributed gifts to the children who had previously been given parcel pick-up coupons.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., said, “FTUI is sorry for the tragedy that our brothers and sisters in Cianjur are currently experiencing. We share their pain and loss. Through distributing donations to the people affected by the earthquake in Cianjur, it is hoped that this will have a real impact and help the Cianjur people who were affected by the earthquake last November to recover.”

Prof. Heri also emphasized that in the future FTUI, especially from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DTSL), will assist the building construction process in earthquake-affected areas as part of the post-earthquake recovery program. It is hoped that FTUI’s community service activities in Cianjur will continue with various other research and community service programs to help rebuild and recover Cianjur after the earthquake.
