Innovators, Start-Ups, and Partners of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia Win the 2022 UI Innovation Award

Universitas Indonesia (UI) awarded inventors, start-ups, and partners, which are considered to have a major impact on society. Several FTUI inventors and start-ups have won awards in several categories. One of the industrial partners who commercially produce the innovative work of FTUI’s inventors also won an award at this award event.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Raldi Artono Koestoer from the Department of Mechanical Engineering FTUI won an award for the category “Inventor with the Largest Social Impact”, the award was given for his work in the Baby Incubator. He designed a home incubator that parents can use at home. Currently, thousands of premature babies throughout Indonesia have experienced the benefits of his baby incubator through the Indonesian Premature Baby Foundation.

The UI Electric Bus Team, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ir. Danardono Agus Sumarsono, DEA., PE., won an award for the category “Inventor with Inventions for Climate Change Mitigation.” The bus that has been symbolically handed over to the Government (10/06) to support the implementation of the G20 Presidency. This bus is the only one in Indonesia whose chassis platform design, drive system, brake system, control system, inverter, dashboard, and air conditioning system were designed by UI experts and built by domestic companies.

The UI Ventilator, Covent-20, which is the result of the UI Ventilator Team’s innovation, won an award for the category “Inventor with the Largest Intellectual Property License Royalty Value.” Dr. Basari, S.T., M.Eng. representing the team receiving the first award. COVENT-20 is a Low-Cost Local Transport Ventilator developed by the UI Ventilator Team to help meet domestic ventilator needs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, the UI Ventilator, Covent-20 has been produced commercially by cooperating with CV Bartec Utama Mandiri as a business partner. On June 7, 2022, CV Bartec handed over royalties from the sale of the first 3 months of Covent-20 to UI with a value of hundreds of millions of rupiah. This earned the Bartec Group the award of “The Business Partner with the Largest Royalty Paying.” The award was received by Hadi Pranoto, S.T. representing the Bartec Group.

The UI Innovation Award 2022 is based on UI’s efforts as an academic institution to increase the capacity of UI’s human resources and academics through the quality and quantity of UI research and innovation products. UI as an educational institution is also responsible for creating an innovation ecosystem supported by many reliable human resources. Therefore, UI has launched Innovation Month as an annual routine activity to support and provide a platform for inventors, start-ups, and industrial partners at UI.
