University of Sydney Australia Visits FTUI for Urban Design and Smart City Collaboration

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI)  received a working visit from the University of Sydney on Monday, November 14, 2022. During this visit, the University of Sydney was represented by the Head of School and Dean, Professor Robyn Dowling BEc (Hons) Sydney; MA, Ph.D. BrCol, External and Professional Engagement Manager; Mr. Steven Burns, Senior Country (Indonesia) Sydney Future Student; Mr. Rico Kho.

In the remarks of both parties, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), and the University of Sydney stated that both of them were very interested in building and developing collaboration in the academic field.

Prof. Robyn Dowling said “I am a practicing urban designer, I am very happy to hear that many Universitas Indonesia colleagues share the same interest in urban design and smart cities. So in the future, I would be very happy if the University of Sydney could collaborate with the Department of Architecture.”

Before conducting collaborative discussions between the two universities. On the part of FTUI, making several achievements, such as promoting the architecture department, Prof. Evawani presented the results of her research regarding Cikini Village, promotion of the Multidisciplinary Regional and Urban Planning Masters Study Program, and discussions with several architecture lecturers with Prof. Robyn, regarding urban and smart city designers.

“The collaboration that is expected in the future can work together in double degree and fast track programs, especially in becoming a partner university for the architecture department, moreover the University of Sydney is the number one school of architecture in Australia. So that students of architecture will have more choices of partner universities. Apart from that, FTUI also hopes to collaborate in a Ph.D. program for FTUI staff and Masters’ students,” said Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU.

And to continue the collaboration between Universitas Indonesia and the University of Sydney, Prof. Robyn hopes there will be a special meeting to discuss and discuss the curriculum mapping of the Double Degree and Fast Track programs. After the discussion session ended, the afternoon continued with a public lecture with the theme “Making Cities Smart” with Prof. Robyn Dowling.
