Visiting MIT, UI Delegation Discusses Research in the Energy Sector

Universitas Indonesia (UI) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) plan to conduct a research collaboration between UI and the MIT Energy Initiative (MITei). The UI delegation also came to fulfill the invitation to the number-one campus in the world. The UI delegation was represented by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. rer. grout. Abdul Haris and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah at the meeting last Saturday (8/10/2022).

The UI delegation was received by the leadership of MITei, including Robert Stoner, Deputy Director for Science & Technology; and Lihong Duan, Director of the Asia Pacific Energy Partnership. The meeting, which was held at the MIT Boston Campus, United States (US), discussed the details of the design scheme for sending UI researchers to study energy at MIT, as well as strengthening UI’s global engagement with world-class universities.

During the visit, apart from discussing research collaboration, the UI Delegation also explored the possibility of educational collaboration. To participate in the success of the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) policy launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Prof. Haris proposed increasing the quota of UI student exchange participants to take part in the student exchange to the campus.

“Increasing the student exchange quota can be through the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) scheme or other flagship programs formed by UI. It’s also good if you can develop internships with industry that can be followed by both parties,” said Prof. Harris.

In addition, the UI delegation also paid attention to the Global Executive Program (GEP) program for decision-makers in industry and government which can be held through collaboration between UI and MIT.

On that occasion, Prof. Haris also greeted UI students who were taking part in a student exchange program at Boston University and discussed the fluency of their studies.
“You are UI ambassadors on a global flagship campus, as well as proof that Indonesia’s best sons and daughters can compete and survive in the most competitive universities in the world. We are proud of you, Indonesia, and your parents too. Make the most of this learning opportunity,” he ordered, via a written statement, Tuesday (11/10/2022).
