The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), has once again organized Technopreneur Spark to provide technology-based entrepreneurship education to its students. This time, the theme is Prototyping Product, in collaboration with Javatech Automation. Javatech Co-Founder, Titos Jatiarso, served as the speaker for the workshop, which was held on Friday (27/09) at X504, i-CELL Building, FTUI.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, Head of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Unit at FTUI, said, “Technopreneur Spark aims to equip students early on with the spirit of technology-based entrepreneurship. This entrepreneurial spirit is important for those who will become entrepreneurs and those who will become professionals or employees. The core of the entrepreneurial spirit is to focus on innovation, finding solutions, and opening up opportunities.”
The speaker for this workshop was Titos Jatiarso, Co-Founder of Javatech Automation, who has over 10 years of experience in the IoT industry, System Control, and Data Acquisition. The presentation was delivered interactively, with Titos asking various questions to participants about entrepreneurship and offering related advice. Topics included market research, exploring business ideas, prototyping, product testing, development, launch, and evaluation. Titos particularly emphasized Prototyping Products during his presentation.
“Prototyping is part of Product Design. Prototyping is divided into two types: Low Fidelity, a basic mockup, and High Fidelity, a physical model that can be used. In product design, several key elements make it successful, including functionality, aesthetics, user experience, and sustainability,” explained Titos.
Titos further elaborated on how to balance creativity and usability in product design. He highlighted three key aspects: understanding the target market, starting with functionality that solves a problem, and testing the product by gathering feedback for improvement.
FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, stated, “FTUI is always committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge relevant to current industry developments. Through the Technopreneur Spark event and this theme of Prototyping Product, we hope students can understand the process of transforming ideas into tangible products. The collaboration with Javatech Automation allows participants to learn directly from industry experts, enhancing their ability to create impactful technology-based innovations.”
Technopreneur Spark is designed to be held monthly. It is hoped that this event will continue and foster the development of talented young entrepreneurs at FTUI.
