Collaboration between FTUI and University of California Berkeley to Strengthen International Partnerships

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), welcomed a delegation from the University of California Berkeley (UCB) at the Council of Professors Room on Monday (March 24). Representatives from both institutions attended the meeting to discuss various forms of international collaboration in research, student mobility, and academic staff exchange. Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of Partnership and International Education, received the UCB delegation represented by Matthew Sherburne, Assistant Dean of International Partnership, and Hazel Narvaez, Assistant Director of International Programs.

The research program aims to produce outcomes through a review paper or a joint research proposal. Based on the discussion, a review paper was considered the more suitable option. Therefore, it is necessary to identify research topics that align with the interests of Universitas Indonesia (UI) and UCB.

In addition, the student exchange program discussions covered various options for students interested in participating in exchange programs at UCB. The Globe program was seen as more advantageous than the BGA program, as it offers comprehensive services including visa assistance, academic support, and airport pickup services. Although more costly, the program provides greater convenience for international students.

In a separate statement, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated, “With the establishment of a long-term research agreement, student mobility programs, and opportunities for academic staff exchange, we hope this collaboration will bring broad benefits to both institutions. We are optimistic that FTUI students and faculty members will gain enriched academic experiences and opportunities to contribute to globally impactful research through this initiative.”

The follow-up actions from this meeting include extending the research agreement and student exchange programs and identifying suitable research topics for collaborative studies. The collaboration between FTUI and the University of California, Berkeley is expected to further strengthen international academic networks and provide significant benefits for students and faculty members from both institutions.
