Commitment to Uphold an Academic Environment of Integrity: FTUI Holds Socialization of FTUI Dean Regulation No. 4 of 2024 on Academic Integrity

On Monday (August 12), the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI), reaffirmed its commitment to academic integrity by initiating the socialization of the FTUI Dean Regulation No. 4 of 2024 on Handling Violations of Academic Integrity by FTUI Students. The socialization event was held at the Makara 04 Smart Meeting Room, FTUI Dean’s Building, and was attended by FTUI leadership, Department Heads, Department Secretaries, Program Heads, as well as the Presidents of the FTUI Student Executive Board (BEM) and FTUI Student Association. The purpose of this socialization was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the latest regulation and to emphasize the importance of maintaining integrity in every aspect of academic activities within FTUI.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, stated in his opening remarks, “Academic integrity is a crucial foundation in higher education. This regulation is a collective effort to maintain the quality of education at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia. The socialization aims to prevent violations of academic integrity within the FTUI community. I hope this event will provide a thorough understanding of the types of academic integrity violations, the applicable sanctions, as well as the reporting and case handling mechanisms.”

“Dean Regulation No. 4 of 2024 was developed over approximately one year by the drafting team. This regulation was designed based on references from the UI Rector’s Regulation, which was then implemented as a specific Dean’s Regulation on Academic Integrity, covering academic activities conducted by students. Forms of academic integrity violations include plagiarism, collusion, fraud, impersonation, cheating, facilitating academic misconduct, and the use of unauthorized tools,” explained Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of the Education Modernization, Planning, and Supervision Unit.

He continued, “In drafting this regulation, several key considerations were taken into account. First, academic integrity is the foundation of every leading educational institution worldwide. Furthermore, as FTUI becomes an increasingly global institution with rising rankings, it is essential to ensure that the educational process on campus takes place in an atmosphere of integrity. Lastly, this regulation is expected to prevent academic violations within FTUI, as such prevention requires rules that can deter violations through sanctions for those who breach academic integrity.”

Acting Dean of FTUI, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., commented on the socialization event, stating, “Dean Regulation No. 4 of 2024 is our collective effort to create an academic environment that is clean, fair, and full of integrity. With this regulation, I urge the entire FTUI academic community to actively participate in creating an academic environment that upholds the values of honesty and integrity.”
