Dean Greets Chemical Engineering Department: Product Design Based on Industry Needs

“In the next four years, basically my team and I will continue what the previous deans have built,” said the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.T., IPU at the virtual opening of the Dean Greeting the Chemical Engineering Department (31/01). At the event which was attended by 38 people, Dean Heri was also accompanied by the two Vice Deans of FTUI for the period 2022-2026, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc. and Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D. From DTK FTUI, the newly elected Head and Secretary of the Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, ST., MT. and Dr. Dianursanti, S.T., M.T.

In his speech, Dean Heri also said that in the future the management of interdisciplinary programs will be carried out at the faculty level and not at the department. In addition, FTUI lecturers will be asked to declare their respective expertise so that they can be grouped in the future. This will help determine future career paths and map the needs of experts or professors in what fields.
The Dean Greet Department roadshow activity is a forum for dialogue for faculty leaders, in this case the Dean and the two Vice Deans to convey the prepared programs and also listen to aspirations, suggestions, input and advice from the department regarding matters that can be accommodated in future activity programs.

Several inputs were conveyed at the Dean Greeting the Chemical Engineering Department, such as the need to ensure that the formation of start-ups cannot be carried out haphazardly so that they will survive in the future, the need to make schemes or other arrangements for senior lecturers who are no longer able to be given the burden of teaching and research such as other young lecturers. Another interesting suggestion is to involve the industry in product design courses. By making product designs that are in accordance with industrial needs, it is hoped that in the future it will be able to provide more positive impact for graduates. Also of concern is the welfare of young FTUI lecturers and whether the faculty has plans to facilitate or create programs related to this in the future.
