Dean Visits Department of Electrical Engineering: Building Synergy through the Spirit of Ramadan

On Wednesday (March 19), the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), visited the Department of Electrical Engineering at the MRPQ Auditorium. The visit was held in conjunction with a communal iftar event. The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., was accompanied by the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto. Professors, Faculty Leaders and Managers, the Electrical Engineering Alumni Association Chair, and student organisation representatives also attended the event.

The event began with a recitation of the Qur’an by Taufiq Alif Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., followed by a tilawah interpretation by Della. It continued with welcoming remarks from the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Arief Udhiarto, S.T., M.T., IPU., who said,Thank you very much to Prof. Kemas for visiting the Department of Electrical Engineering for our annual iftar gathering. I also extend my deepest appreciation to the organizing committee and everyone present who took the time to participate. This event is a meaningful platform for all of us to engage in dialogue, share aspirations, and receive direct guidance from the faculty leadership regarding developments and policies at FTUI.”

In his remarks, Prof. Kemas emphasized theBerjaya(Achieve) motto, stating,In line with our sloganUnggul Berjaya, Berdaya dan Berbudaya(Excellence, Achievement, Empowerment, and Cultural Awareness), the term Berjaya reflects our accomplishments. FTUI has already reached anAchievingphase, as seen in our many successes. We aim to enhance further our internationalization efforts by attracting more international students and transforming our learning culture to reflect a World-Class University, including improving our campus facilities.”

He also highlighted several initiatives undertaken during his tenure as Dean, such as reorganising parking areas, emphasizing that parking is not a student right. Instead, the campus is being developed into a more environmentally friendly space that encourages walking and cycling. He also addressed the smoking ban, suggesting reevaluating designated smoking zones like the boulevard to ensure more appropriate placement.

Prof. Kemas further addressed the mental health issue, noting the ongoing construction of a co-working space at the Engineering Center. This new space is expected to create a more positive environment where students feel more comfortable and happy.

The event continued with a spiritual sharing session led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Suryanegara, S.T., M.Sc., IPU., who discussed the practice of i’tikaf (spiritual retreat) in the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan. The event concluded with congregational Maghrib prayer and a communal iftar.
