Depok, September 19, 2025 – The Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Gas and Petrochemical Engineering and Chemical Engineering Study Program (GPTK-UI) by hosting a Grand Reunion at Balai Purnomo, Universitas Indonesia. The event gathered more than 600 alumni across generations in an atmosphere of togetherness, carrying the grand theme “Building Chemistry for a Sustainable Nation.”
The reunion was divided into three main segments — The Memory, The Story, and The Party — each designed to evoke nostalgia, inspiration, and camaraderie among alumni. In the Memory segment, attendees were invited to walk down memory lane through a nostalgic corner showcasing a photo collage of GPTK-UI’s long journey.
The event became even more vibrant with a trunk show by alumni representatives who showcased fashion inspired by Nusantara textiles, including the “Universitas Indonesia Batik”, “Kain Ibu” designed by Rita Triana Pasaribu (GP 1989 alumna), and “Tenun Fabric” by Ina Yusufina under her brand Shamara.
The Story segment presented a reflection on GPTK-UI’s four-decade journey through a series of narratives titled “Cerita Cinta Salemba” (A Love Story from Salemba), “From Zero to Hero,” “Everything Starts with a Dream,” and “Life Begins at 40.” This special moment also marked the launch of the book “Tracing the 40-Year Journey of Gas & Petrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Bioprocess Engineering 1985–2025” and the recognition of 40 inspiring alumni who have made significant contributions in various fields.
The atmosphere of unity was further enlivened by performances from the Paragita Choir and artistic showcases by GPTK alumni. As the highlight of the evening, the Party segment served as a joyous celebration with cross-generational musical performances and special appreciation for the winners of the inter-batch competitions that strengthened alumni solidarity.
In his remarks, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, Rector of Universitas Indonesia, stated,
“More than just a reunion, this moment reaffirms the role of Chemical Engineering alumni in continuing to contribute to the nation across various sectors, towards an environmentally friendly and sustainable national development.”
Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FTUI, also expressed his appreciation for the event’s success, saying,
“The 40th GPTK-UI Reunion is a testament to the strong solidarity among alumni across generations. FTUI is proud to see the growing contributions of our alumni, both nationally and internationally. May this spirit of togetherness continue to strengthen the synergy among academia, industry, and society in building a sustainable future.”
