Digging Input To Provide Better Service, Dean Meets FTUI Foreign Students

The Unit for Modernization and Internationalization of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held a meeting with foreign students from various educational programs organized by FTUI. This meeting took place in the Academic Senate Room, 2nd Floor of the FTUI Dean’s Building, last Monday (05/06/23), to know the academic and student life of foreign students studying at FTUI.

Also attending this meeting, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Dr. Nyoman Suwartha, S.T., M.T., M.Agr., Education Manager, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit, Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. DIC., Secretary of the Unit for Modernization and Internationalization of Education, as well as foreign students from various educational programs organized by FTUI, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs as well as student exchange schemes, full degrees, and Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) scholarships.

“We, from the leadership, especially the FTUI Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit, open up opportunities for friends to convey their needs, constraints, or hopes while studying at FTUI. It is hoped that from what is conveyed by friends here, we can accommodate it as material for suggestions and evaluation. We hope that your studies will be successful until the end of your studies,” said Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., Dean of FTUI in his remarks.

The activity continued by conveying the needs, constraints, and hopes of each foreign student studying at FTUI. Many of them gave positive responses to the Lecturers, Educators, and other students in the FTUI environment, who were very supportive of the studies they were carrying out.

One of the twenty-one foreign students said that “Lecture activities at FTUI support me to be productive in studying. Not only from the lecturers and teaching staff but also from fellow students who are very supportive to study together. I am also optimistic that I will be enthusiastic about studying at FTUI in the future,” said Sunny Tiwari, a Mechanical Engineering Postgraduate Program student from India.

However, some of them still have problems using Indonesian during their lecture activities, so they need language courses. In addition, there is also anxiety that they feel in terms of the comfort of living facilities in the hostel.

“The anxiety experienced and felt will be material for a joint evaluation to provide study convenience for foreign students. Foreign Students themselves are under the auspices and supervision of the FTUI Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit. So, to develop this unit, we have a target to continue to develop foreign students, both in terms of academic needs, student affairs, or the facilities they get,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of the FTUI Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit.
