The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), and the University of Glasgow held an intensive discussion on the development of a Double Degree program for the Department of Civil Engineering. The meeting, which took place at the University of Glasgow on July 25, marked the initial step in realizing an academic collaboration that will provide students with the opportunity to earn dual degrees from these prestigious institutions.
FTUI was represented by Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, accompanied by Dr. Ing. Dalhar Susanto, Manager of Cooperation, Venture, and Alumni, and Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Secretary of the Department of Civil Engineering.
On the other hand, the University of Glasgow was represented by several professors and leaders from the James Watt School of Engineering, including Professor Andrew McBride (Professor of Computational Mechanics, Deputy-Head of the James Watt School of Engineering), Professor Fiona Bradley (Professor of Structural Engineering Design), Professor Scott Roy (Professor of Electronics, Director of Learning & Teaching), Tania Galabova (Head of Professional Services), and Dr. Vanessa Johnson (Global Partnership Engagement Lead).
During the discussion, both parties addressed various technical and administrative aspects of the Double Degree program, including curriculum, teaching methods, and credit transfer mechanisms. “We are very excited about the potential of this collaboration,” said Prof. Yanuar. “This Double Degree program will open new opportunities for students to gain international experience and broaden their perspectives in the field of civil engineering.”
Professor Andrew McBride from the University of Glasgow also welcomed the initiative. “Collaboration with FTUI will enrich the learning experience of our students and strengthen the academic relationship between these two institutions. We are committed to providing a program that is not only of high quality but also relevant to global industry developments,” he said.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, commented on this collaboration. “The cooperation between FTUI and the University of Glasgow in the form of this Double Degree program is a strategic step that will bring many benefits to both institutions. Through this collaboration, we hope to enhance the quality of education and research through the exchange of knowledge and technology, as well as expand our international network. I believe that this synergy will result in innovations that can positively contribute to the advancement of engineering in Indonesia and the UK,” he stated.
With this Double Degree program, it is hoped that students from FTUI and the University of Glasgow will receive a more comprehensive education and be better prepared to face global challenges in the future. This meeting marks a promising start for a closer and more sustainable collaboration between the two institutions.
