Expand Educational Inclusivity Access, UI Inaugurates 4 New Smart Classrooms

Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) is increasingly ready to embrace a new era in higher education with the addition of 4 Smart Classrooms. The provision of these 4 Smart Classrooms by donor partners increases the total number of modern educational facilities owned by FTUI to 24 Smart Classrooms. These four classrooms are located in the Joint Lecture Building S and K of FTUI.

The handover of the 4 Smart Classrooms, which took place on Monday (15/01), was witnessed by UI Rector, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, S.E., M.A., Ph.D., and carried out by FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, along with donor partners, namely Aland Rinni Patity, Senior Vice President of PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. (2 classrooms); Anton Satyo Hendriatmo, PT PP (Persero) Tbk. (1 classroom); and Cindar Hari Prabowo, Director of Kamata Foundation (1 classroom).

In his address, Prof. Ari mentioned that Smart Classrooms not only enhance the quality of learning but also open the door to inclusivity for various groups of students. He said, “We are committed to creating a learning environment that supports student development. Smart Classrooms encourage active student engagement in the learning process. With interactive devices, they can collaborate, share ideas, and develop digital skills needed in the modern workplace. This not only creates an inclusive environment but also prepares students for challenges in the future.”

With a capacity of 40–60 students, FTUI’s smart classrooms are designed to be flexible and adaptable to various teaching models. The facilities provided include interactive smart boards, smart TVs, Poly Studio, and smart projectors with various advanced features to support both offline and hybrid learning.

According to Prof. Heri, Smart Classrooms at FTUI not only offer advanced technology but also serve as access bridges for students with various learning needs. “The use of multimedia technology in Smart Classrooms opens the door for students and learners across Indonesia. Without the need to be physically present at the FTUI Depok campus, students from remote areas in Indonesia can access learning materials more easily,” he said.

FTUI began the revitalization of traditional classrooms into Smart Classrooms in 2019. The goal is to modernize 50 FTUI lecture rooms into smart classrooms by 2025. The existence of Smart Classrooms also represents the physical realization of one of the eleven flagship programs of the FTUI Dean for 2022–2026, which is the development of educational facilities that can accommodate the needs of engineering students.

The handover ceremony of the 4 new Smart Classrooms was also attended by UI Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp, OF(K); UI Vice Rector for HR and Assets, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA; President Director of PT Airbus Indonesia Nusantara, Dani Adriananta; Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility & SMEPP Management of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fajriyah Usman; Director of Operations of PT PP Urban, Dian Adi Cahyono; Talent Development Expert of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan, Satya Prihatmoko; Senior Manager of Development, Partnership, and Formal Education of Pusdiklat PT PLN, Imam Bari; and Chairman of Iluni FTUI, Nanang Sugianto.
