The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), held a pre-departure briefing for students participating in Double Degree, Student Exchange, Fee Paying Study Abroad, and IISMA programs on Saturday (8/6). The event aimed to prepare students for their upcoming studies at various partner universities of Universitas Indonesia in the fall semester of 2024/2025. As of June 7, 2024, 35 students are participating in Double Degree, 26 in Student Exchange, 19 in Fee Paying Study Abroad, 35 in IISMA, and 21 in IISMA Co-Funding.

The Head of the FTUI International Office, Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, opened the event with a presentation on the overview of studying abroad and the necessary preparations. “The outbound schemes managed by the FTUI International Office include the Double Degree Program, Single Degree Student Exchange, Single Degree Fee Paying Study Abroad, Scholarships, Internships, Short Courses, and Visiting Student programs. Today, however, our focus is on the preparation for students participating in Double Degree, Student Exchange, Fee Paying Study Abroad, and IISMA scholarships who are scheduled to depart next semester,” Fadhilah stated.

Fadhilah further explained that this year, 135 FTUI students would be travelling to 20 different countries. He emphasized the importance of adhering to academic codes of ethics while studying at partner universities. Additionally, he outlined key pre-departure considerations, such as student status in SIAK-NG, visa and immigration applications, accommodation confirmation letters, and other essential departure documents and items. This session concluded with a Q&A, featuring Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of the FTUI Educational Modernization, Planning, and Supervision Unit, as a resource person.

The event continued with a discussion session with representatives from partner universities. This session was attended by Ms. Merry Kurniati (WINIK Education), Ms. Dita Adhitia (Mercator Office), Fitria Arsianti (Principal Advisor University of Queensland), and Patricia Kelly (In-country Recruitment Executive Curtin University). Additionally, four alumni and students who had completed their studies abroad—student exchange in Germany, fee-paying study abroad in Italy, double degree in Australia, and fee-paying study abroad in South Korea—were present to share their experiences and tips for studying abroad.

FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., expressed positive feedback regarding this event. “This pre-departure briefing is crucial to ensure our students are prepared to face academic and cultural challenges abroad. I hope FTUI students can take full advantage of this opportunity to broaden their horizons and global networks. FTUI, through its International Office, remains committed to supporting students throughout their studies abroad,” said Prof. Heri.

The preparation provided during this pre-departure briefing will serve as a vital resource for students as they embark on their international studies, representing Universitas Indonesia on the global stage. The inauguration of the FTUI International Office at the beginning of 2024 as a new unit demonstrates FTUI’s commitment to continuously supporting and facilitating students in pursuing academic opportunities abroad and opening doors for more international collaborations in the future.
