On Monday (19/8), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), particularly the International Office (IO FTUI), welcomed a visit from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro (FT UNDIP). The visit was held in the Senate Room, FTUI Dean’s Building, and was received by the Head of the Educational Modernization, Planning, and Supervision Unit, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Head of the International Office, Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Manager of Collaboration, Ventures, and Alumni, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, and the Coordinator for International Collaboration at IO FTUI, Siti Nurandini Winduningtyas.
The delegation from FT UNDIP included the Coordinator of the International Office, Mada Sophianingrum, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., the Coordinator of the Collaboration Unit, Dr. Eng. Gunawan Dwi Haryadi, S.T., M.T., and administrative staff members Dani Ristyawati, S.S., Wenti Arum Widasari, S.T., and M. Rusmul Khandiq, S.I.P. The visit was aimed at conducting a comparative study and learning from the best practices in managing the International Office and the Collaboration Unit at FTUI.
“Our internationalization program has been progressing very well. We have already been serving several foreign universities in running programs at FTUI. Moving forward, we aim to strengthen its implementation. This is our responsibility to our stakeholders to provide the best service,” said Prof. Harinaldi in his opening remarks.
“Today, we are bringing two units, the International Office and the Collaboration Unit, to learn from FTUI, which has achieved remarkable milestones. We want to learn how FTUI manages its internationalization program and its connected partners. We hope to gain knowledge from FTUI and potentially collaborate in the future,” continued Mada in her speech.
During the discussion, the Head of the Educational Modernization, Planning, and Supervision Unit at FTUI explained that the FT UI International Office was previously a division under the Educational Modernization and Internationalization Unit (Modirpen), which was established during the leadership of the elected Dean. In 2023, the internationalization division became a separate unit from Modirpen and was named the FTUI International Office. The formation of the FTUI International Office took into account the importance of academic reputation, both nationally and internationally, and over time, it has also become a unit that contributes to the faculty’s revenue.
The FTUI International Office functions to provide support and management services for the FTUI International Special Class (KKI), international collaborations, and international mobility. The KKI program at FTUI has been running since 1999, starting with three study programs and several partner universities in Australia, while the KKI program at FT UNDIP was established in 2018 as an international exposure program. To establish a KKI program, the study program must have excellent accreditation, and by 2024, 11 undergraduate programs at FTUI have implemented the KKI program. One of the suggestions provided by FTUI was to select partner universities with good or higher rankings than the university’s ranking to help enhance academic reputation and build trust in expanding other partner universities.
