FTUI and APAII Explore Collaboration for Artificial Intelligence Training Program

On Monday (June 16), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), welcomed a visit from the Indonesian Artificial Intelligence Users Association (APAII) at the Professors Council Meeting Room, FTUI Dean Building. The meeting was attended by Dr. Miktha Farid Alkadri, S.Ars., M.Ars., Secretary of the Planning, Performance Monitoring, and Education Modernization Unit (UPPKMP), along with the UPPKMP team and APAII representatives Gusti Alendra and Pandu Kusuma Bhakti Sunda Wibawa. The discussion focused on the potential collaboration for training and certification programs under the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Marketing.

APAII has previously collaborated with government institutions and higher education bodies across Indonesia to meet the growing demand for AI expertise in professional settings. This initiative responds to the significant rise in AI usage in Southeast Asia, which has doubled between 2021 and 2023.

The program is targeted toward academic communities, including educators, lecturers, and especially students. Currently, only an estimated 19% of workers in Indonesia possess AI-related skills, while around 70% of companies are ready to hire employees with AI competencies. As many jobs are increasingly being automated or replaced by AI, mastering AI has become essential for staying relevant in the workforce.

Students are expected to gain significant benefits from this program, not only for academic purposes but also for future industrial careers and professional development. AI is becoming a crucial tool in streamlining academic tasks and enhancing competitiveness in the job market. Furthermore, regulations in various countries, including those at institutions such as Harvard, have begun to permit the use of AI, thereby creating more opportunities for both students and educators to integrate AI into teaching and learning processes.

Dr. Miktha responded positively to APAII’s proposal, stating, “This program will not only provide opportunities for formal AI competency development but also encourage cross-skill activities that can be applied to solve both small and large-scale business challenges.”

FTUI Dean Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., welcomed the collaboration plan, saying, “FTUI is committed to equipping its students with future-ready skills, including proficiency in artificial intelligence technologies. This partnership with APAII represents a strategic step in strengthening students’ preparedness for digital transformation in the workforce.” He further emphasized that the initiative aligns with FTUI’s vision of advancing technical education that is adaptive to global technological developments.
