Since its establishment (1964) in Jakarta, Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Indonesia (UI), support from industrial partners has been inseparable from the development of FTUI. From infrastructure support to sharing the latest knowledge and technology, the collaboration between FTUI and its industrial partners has produced many excellent researches that have a positive impact on Indonesian society.
For this reason, still in connection with FTUI’s 59th Anniversary, a cooperation agreement in the field of education and research was signed with PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta (Perseroda). The agreement was signed by Dean of FTUI Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST, M.Eng, IPU, and Director of PT MRT Jakarta Weni Maulina. This agreement covers the making of technical studies of fire safety guidelines in the Jakarta MRT environment.
Furthermore, FTUI and PT MRT Jakarta will collect data and study literature related to the study. From the data collected, FTUI conducted an academic study of fire safety guidelines and compiled a framework of safety guidelines.
“This collaboration is a clear example of how FTUI can contribute directly to improving public safety. This collaboration is also a valuable opportunity for FTUI to apply existing academic and research knowledge to the real world, with immediate impact on society,” said Prof. Heri. He added, “I hope that this cooperation can become a model for collaboration between universities and industry in an effort to improve the safety and quality of public services.”
Meanwhile, Weni Maulina said that this collaboration is a proactive and strategic step in ensuring the safety of Jakarta MRT service users. “This technical study will provide a deeper understanding of the fire safety aspects relevant to the Jakarta MRT system. The data and literature studies collected by PT MRT Jakarta and FTUI will be an important basis in identifying potential risks and developing effective preventive measures,” said Weni.
The development of a framework of fire safety guidelines by FTUI will be an important foundation for PT MRT Jakarta in implementing effective fire prevention, detection and suppression measures. The guidelines will help create a safe environment for MRT Jakarta passengers and staff and improve response and evacuation in emergency situations. The collaboration between FTUI and PT MRT Jakarta is expected to achieve the common goal of creating a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation system for the citizens of Jakarta.
