On Wednesday (12/02), the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) welcomed a delegation from the University of Strathclyde to discuss strengthening educational and research collaboration. The meeting at the Professors’ Council Room was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at FTUI. The University of Strathclyde delegation was represented by Prof. Gerasimos Theotokatos, Director of the Maritime Safety Research Center, and Dr. Chaitanya Patil, International Collaboration Coordinator from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.
The discussion focused on strengthening ties through Dual Degree Programs, joint PhD initiatives, and research collaborations in the maritime industry. The Dual Degree Program, supported by the LPDP scholarship, allows students to study for one year at FTUI and one year at the University of Strathclyde. The academic program at Strathclyde runs from mid-September to May and is divided into two semesters. The joint doctoral program allows students to spend the first two years at FTUI and the third year at the University of Strathclyde. Additionally, FTUI proposed that master’s students from the University of Strathclyde could research relevant topics in Indonesia.
Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Ir also attended the meeting. Achmad Riadi, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPM, Dr.-Ing. Mohammad Adhitya, S.T., M.Sc., Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Arif Budiyanto, S.T., M.T., IPM, Siti Nurandini Winduningtyas, and Dyas Latiefah Citraningrum.
The follow-up actions from this visit include curriculum mapping to ensure program compatibility, technical preparation for credit transfer, and the development of joint transcript documentation in coordination with the international offices of both universities.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., stated, “This initiative aligns with FTUI’s vision to become a center of excellence in engineering education at the global level, particularly through collaborations in dual degree programs, joint PhDs, and decarbonization projects in the maritime industry. We are confident that this program will run successfully and significantly impact both institutions.”
