The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (DTM FTUI), warmly welcomed a delegation from Tadulako University (UNTAD) on September 11, 2024, at the Mechanical Engineering Department’s Meeting Room. The visit aimed to formalize collaboration in the Tri Dharma of higher education, specifically in the Program Kompetisi – Kampus Merdeka (PK-KM) in the fields of education and research between the two universities.
The FTUI delegation was led by Dr. Agus Sunjarianto Pamitran, ST., M.Eng., Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, and Dr.-Ing. Mohammad Adhitya, S.T., M.Sc., Secretary of the Mechanical Engineering Department, while the UNTAD delegation included Dr. Ir. Bakri, ST., M.Phil., Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, and Dr. Ir. Rustan Hatib, ST., MT., Secretary of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, UNTAD.
Dr. Ir. Bakri, ST., M.Phil., Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, stated, “The Mechanical Engineering Department of UNTAD has a mission to enhance students’ competencies in appropriate technology based on renewable energy and disaster mitigation through off-campus activities. We hope that in the implementation of this mission, UNTAD can collaborate with FTUI, particularly in the areas of education and research.”
During the meeting, Dr. Agus Sunjarianto Pamitran, ST., M.Eng., proposed several strategic collaboration programs between FTUI and UNTAD. One key initiative is a joint education program between universities, which allows for broader knowledge exchange and teaching methods between the two institutions. Additionally, he offered a laboratory internship program for partner university students, where they can contribute to ongoing research at FTUI. This program provides students with the opportunity to engage directly in scientific research, and with FTUI’s approval, the research may be used as material for their final thesis.
Furthermore, FTUI is also developing a research collaboration program for Ph.D. students. This program is designed to not only support the student’s research process while at FTUI but also assist their home universities in building research infrastructure, including the necessary research equipment. This initiative aims to enable students to continue their research at their home institutions even after completing their dissertations and graduating from the doctoral program. This program addresses a common issue faced by partner university Ph.D. alumni, who often struggle to continue their research due to limited facilities and research equipment at their home institutions. With this program, it is expected that research initiated at FTUI will have a more sustainable impact on the advancement of knowledge at the partner university.
“This collaboration is expected to create opportunities for both institutions to strengthen academic and research capabilities and broaden the perspectives of students and lecturers in addressing the evolving global engineering challenges,” said Acting Dean, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D.
