FTUI and Washington University Discuss Double Degree Program Collaboration

Washington University in St. Louis (WashU) visited the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), on Wednesday (09/18/24) to strengthen cooperation in education and research. The meeting agenda focused on discussing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WashU and FTUI, following their previous collaboration through a Short Course program. Represented by Aaron Bobick, Dean of McKelvey School of Engineering, Washington University and FTUI engaged in in-depth discussions on potential collaborations, particularly in postgraduate Ph.D. programs and a Double Degree program.

Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Acting Dean of FTUI, said, “We will fully develop and optimize this educational and research collaboration opportunity with Washington University. Through discussions, opportunities have opened up for a Master’s Double Degree Program, and this is a step toward creating graduates who are globally competitive and highly skilled.”

“In addition to the educational collaboration opportunities, we have also agreed to develop research partnerships, particularly in the areas of sustainable energy and biotechnology. We hope that this collaboration can be formalized and implemented soon, so it can make a real impact on the advancement of engineering sciences,” said Dr. Fadhilah Muslim, Head of FTUI’s International Office.

Moving forward, the results of this discussion will be followed up with the MoU process and an Agreement of Implementation (AoI) for the Double Degree Master’s Program. The collaboration for the program will be a 1+1 scheme with funding from LPDP. The research collaboration will focus on the areas of sustainable energy and biotechnology.

The meeting took place in the Executive Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of the FTUI Dean’s Office. WashU was represented by Prof. Vijay Ramani, Vice Provost for Graduate Education and International Affairs, WashU; Prof. Aaron Bobick, Dean of McKelvey School of Engineering; Grace Chapin James, Assistant Vice Provost and Director of Admissions; Teresa Sarai, Assistant Dean for International Relations, McKelvey School of Engineering. FTUI representatives included Dr. rer. pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service; Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Head of FTUI International Office; Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, S.T., M.T., Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Dr. Ahmad Zakiyuddin, S.T., M.Eng., Secretary of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Dr. Puspita Anggraini Katili, M.Sc., Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering; and Dr. Eng. Mohammad Akita Indianto, S.T., M.Eng., Secretary of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Department.
