The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), has officially joined an international alliance dedicated to advancing sustainable built environments through the signing of the International Conference on Rebuilding Place Alliance (ICRPA) Consensus on September 28, 2025, in Bangkok.
This initiative was spearheaded by the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), in collaboration with several partner institutions, including Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Universitas Indonesia (UI), and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). The signing of the consensus marks the official establishment of the International Committee on Rebuilding Place Alliance (ICRPA)—an international academic forum focused on innovation, knowledge exchange, and joint solutions to global challenges in sustainable development.
On this occasion, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FTUI, signed the consensus on behalf of Universitas Indonesia. He emphasized that FTUI’s involvement in this alliance is a strategic move to strengthen Indonesia’s academic contribution in addressing the challenges of climate change, energy transition, and sustainability in the built environment.
“FTUI is committed to making engineering research and education not only relevant to Indonesia but also impactful on a global scale. Through ICRPA, we aim to expand our networks, accelerate innovation, and create joint solutions for a sustainable future,” said Prof. Kemas.
The ICRPA Consensus highlights the importance of cross-border collaboration in the fields of art, science, technology, and the built environment to promote human well-being while preserving nature. In the document, all parties agreed to:
- Prioritize joint research collaboration on climate change, ecological governance, and energy transition;
- Encourage the exchange of faculty members, students, and academic staff;
- Share educational resources and research outcomes;
- Strengthen inclusive academic mobility within Southeast Asia and globally.
In addition to Prof. Kemas, the consensus was also signed by other university representatives, including Asst. Prof. Sarayut Supsook, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University; Ts. Dr. Md Jestin Nordin, Head of the Architecture Programme, School of Housing, Building & Planning, Universiti Sains Malaysia; Asst. Prof. Ar. David Ricardo, S.T., M.T., IAI., CST., representing the Faculty of Technology, Infrastructure, and Regional Affairs, Architecture Study Program, Institut Teknologi Sumatera; Prof. Dr. Ir. Alfiansyah Yulianur BC, IPU., ASEAN Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Syiah Kuala; and Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo, representing Institut Teknologi Bandung.
Through this signing, FTUI not only strengthens its position within the regional academic network but also takes an active role in shaping the global discourse on sustainability. Prof. Kemas emphasized that this consensus will serve as a strong foundation for joint research programs, international publications, and the development of globally competitive young talents.
