During an official visit on Wednesday (October 22), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) explored potential academic collaborations with the City University of Hong Kong (CityU HK). The meeting was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., and attended by representatives from CityU HK who presented several of the university’s distinguished academic programs.
In the meeting, CityU HK introduced several of its flagship programs, including the School of Energy and Environment, which offers a Master of Science in Energy and Environment (30 credits), and the College of Engineering, which encompasses five departments: Systems Engineering, Architecture & Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering. CityU HK currently ranks #10 in the QS Asia University Rankings, reflecting its reputation as one of the leading institutions in the region.
In addition, CityU HK offers various postgraduate study opportunities, such as the PhD (Research Program) with scholarship options including the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), a one-year MSc in Construction Management / Civil & Architectural Engineering, as well as Master of Architecture and Master’s in Urban Planning programs with a duration of two years.
Both institutions discussed several potential areas of collaboration, including:
- A Joint Master’s Program in Civil Engineering.
- Research collaboration in Nuclear Energy, a field of interest for FTUI’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, in line with joint projects with BRIN.
- A mobility program for visiting research students.
- A Summer Research Program for undergraduate students.
- A Joint PhD Program to strengthen research collaboration.
As a follow-up, FTUI and CityU HK will begin drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the foundation for further cooperation, particularly in the visiting research student and joint degree programs at the master’s and doctoral levels.
Prof. Yanuar emphasized that this collaboration marks a strategic step in expanding FTUI’s global engagement.
“This visit is an important step in broadening FTUI’s academic network at the global level. Through collaboration with the City University of Hong Kong, we hope to create new opportunities for joint research and academic programs that will benefit students, faculty members, and the advancement of science,” said Prof. Yanuar.
Through this visit, FTUI continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding its global academic network and opening opportunities for students and faculty to engage in innovative and impactful international research activities.
