FTUI and the University of Southampton Explore Collaboration Opportunities for an International Master’s Program

During an official visit on Tuesday (11/11), the University of Southampton and the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), explored opportunities for academic and research collaboration. The meeting was led by Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., FTUI’s Manager of Partnerships and International Education, while the University of Southampton delegation was represented by Professor Gilberto Brambilla and Professor Senthil Ganapathy. The discussion focused on potential joint master’s programs, research initiatives, and talent development.

The University of Southampton—recognized as one of the leading research universities in the United Kingdom—presented its strengths across various engineering disciplines, including electronic, chemical, electrical, civil, maritime, and aerospace engineering. The university also boasts the largest photonics laboratory in the UK and a world-leading optoelectronics research group.

One of the collaborative opportunities agreed upon for further follow-up is the development of a 1+1 dual degree program in Chemical Engineering through the MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering. A 4+1 scheme (undergraduate + master’s) is also being considered as an additional option for collaboration.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., welcomed this initiative. “Collaboration with the University of Southampton opens significant opportunities for FTUI students to gain academic experience at a world-class engineering institution. The dual degree program currently being explored is expected to strengthen the global competencies of FTUI graduates and foster more intensive research collaboration in the future,” stated Prof. Kemas.

Both institutions agreed to proceed with technical discussions as a concrete step toward realizing the proposed joint program.
