The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), welcomed a delegation from Gakken Holdings and the Indonesia-Japan Business Network (IJBNet) to explore a potential strategic partnership in Japanese language education and professional workforce recruitment to Japan. The meeting took place at the FTUI Smart Meeting Room on May 16 and was attended by FTUI leadership and representatives from Gakken Holdings and IJBNet.
The meeting began with a presentation on Gakken Holdings, a Japanese company engaged in education and human resource development with a global vision. Gakken expressed interest in establishing a partnership with FTUI, particularly in providing Japanese language training for prospective Indonesian workers and accrediting vocational training institutions (LPKs) to meet Japanese industry standards.
“This collaboration not only paves the way for students and alumni to broaden their career opportunities in Japan, but also serves as a vital effort in building Indonesia’s human resource capacity to be competent and globally competitive,” said Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, S.Si., M.Eng., Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Entrepreneurship at FTUI.
The proposed collaboration includes Japanese language training schemes, certification, and job placement programs for professional workers, particularly in engineering. Gakken and IJBNet expressed their readiness to support this initiative by providing training facilities and an integrated recruitment system.
Suyoto Rais, Chairman of IJBNet, also stated that this partnership is a concrete step in bridging the gap between higher education and the demands of the Japanese industry. “We are optimistic that, with the support of a renowned institution like FTUI, this program will foster a human resources ecosystem that meets international standards,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by the heads of FTUI departments, including Dr. Agus Sunjarianto Pamitran (Mechanical Engineering), Prof. Dr.Eng. Arief Udhiarto (Electrical Engineering), and Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto (Chemical Engineering), all of whom welcomed the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
FTUI Dean Prof. Dr. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated, “Through this initial dialogue, FTUI reaffirms its commitment to global synergy to expand learning and career opportunities for the academic community while also contributing to the development of excellent human resources in Indonesia who are ready to compete in the international market.”
