FTUI Holds Academic Workshop Series 2025: Strategies for Publishing Scientific Articles

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), in collaboration with the Forum Dosen Teknik Indonesia (FDTI) and Veritas Technologia (VT), once again held the Academic Workshop Series 2025 on September 8–9, 2025. Following the successful Series 1—conducted online in July with the theme Scientific Article WritingSeries 2 was held offline at FTUI, carrying the theme Strategies for Publishing Scientific Articles.

This workshop featured two keynote speakers: Dr. Eng. Radon Dhelika, B.Eng., M.Eng., and Eny Kusrini, S.Si., Ph.D., who delivered materials on effective strategies to publish in Q1/Q2 Scopus-indexed journals, principles of writing and optimizing data visualization, as well as key do’s and don’ts in reputable scientific publication.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., who emphasized the significance of the Academic Workshop Series 2025 as a strategic initiative to strengthen the culture of scientific publication among engineering academics.

“The Academic Workshop Series 2025 is a tangible manifestation of FTUI’s commitment to supporting academic capacity building—not only for the FTUI community but also for the broader engineering academic community in Indonesia. Through this forum, we aim to foster collaboration, share experiences, and reinforce the culture of reputable scientific publication as a benchmark of university excellence,” said Prof. Kemas.

In addition to the keynote speakers, the workshop also featured three facilitators: Ir. Nopa Dwi Maulidiany, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; Dr.-Ing. Alfian Ferdiansyah Madsuha, S.T., M.T.; and Dr. Miktha Farid Alkadri, S.Ars., M.Ars., who guided participants in smaller group sessions. These facilitators provided intensive mentoring to ensure a focused, practical, and interactive learning experience.

During his session, Dr. Radon highlighted the importance of understanding the fundamentals of reputable publication:

“Publishing in reputable journals is not only about writing correctly but also about understanding the principles, ethics, and how to present data optimally. Proper visualization strengthens the research narrative, while minor errors in writing or publication ethics can significantly affect one’s academic reputation. Therefore, understanding the do’s and don’ts is essential for ensuring that our work is accepted and impactful at the global level.”

Meanwhile, Eny Kusrini emphasized strategies for getting published in reputable journals:

“Getting published in Q1/Q2 journals depends not only on research quality but also on the right publication strategy. Understanding impact factor (IF), SJR, and the target audience is crucial to ensure that our article is relevant and has a higher chance of acceptance. With a well-directed strategy, our scientific work can create broader impact in the global research landscape.”

The workshop was attended by participants from the Forum of Deans of Engineering Indonesia and students from FTUI. Through lectures, interactive discussions, hands-on mentoring, and task presentations, participants gained practical learning experiences. They were guided to understand international publication strategies, design scientific data visualization according to global standards, and develop effective citation strategies to enhance the visibility and impact of their publications.

The Academic Workshop Series 2025 will conclude with Series 3, themed Strategies for Managing Reputable Journals. This final workshop aims to strengthen journal management capacity at universities and support the improvement of publication governance quality in Indonesia.
