The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), held an Info Session with the University of Tokyo on 24 November 2025 at the Smart Meeting Room, FTUI Dean’s Building. The event featured two speakers from the University of Tokyo who introduced various international study and research opportunities for FTUI students and faculty members.
The first session was delivered by Dr. Hiroyatsu Satoh from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS). He presented an overview of GSFS, which has more than 1,600 master’s and doctoral students, 50 percent of whom are international students. GSFS consists of three divisions—Transdisciplinary Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Biosciences. The international programs introduced included UTSIP Kashiwa, a seven-week research internship offering scholarships and accommodation, as well as the GRIS Program, a short-term research initiative for undergraduate students from overseas universities that allows participants to design their own research experience in GSFS laboratories.
The next session was delivered by Dr. Di Su from the School of Engineering, who explained the University of Tokyo’s 4–2–3 education structure: four years of undergraduate study, two years of master’s study, and three years of doctoral study. The School of Engineering offers more than 18 departments, English-taught master’s and doctoral programs, and entrepreneurship education support through over 50 courses that have helped establish more than 600 startups. Additionally, the MEXT Scholarship opportunities for international students were also highlighted.
FTUI Dean, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, expressed his appreciation for the event. “FTUI is committed to expanding its global academic network. This info session provides valuable access for students and faculty to explore study and research opportunities at world-class institutions such as the University of Tokyo.”
