FTUI Holds 2024 Capacity Building Event for FTUI Educational Staff

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), once again organized its annual Capacity Building event, aimed at enhancing the teamwork, camaraderie, and skills of the educational staff within FTUI. In 2024, this event was held from August 1st to 3rd in Belitung, with 225 participants from various departments, work units, and ventures within FTUI taking part.

The event was also attended by the faculty and department leadership, including the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU; Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc.; and Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., along with other FTUI faculty and department leaders.

Prof. Heri emphasized that the Capacity Building event was not merely a recreational activity but also an important moment to strengthen cooperation and solidarity among the educational staff. “Through this Capacity Building event, we hope that all participants can work together more cohesively, get to know each other better, and develop skills that will be beneficial in supporting the successful execution of tasks within the FTUI environment. Belitung was chosen as the location because of its beauty, which we hope will provide a fresh and inspiring atmosphere for all participants,” said Prof. Heri.

The journey to Belitung began with air and land transportation, using planes and buses prepared for the group. Upon arrival in Belitung, the group immediately headed to the tourist spot, Kaolin Lake, a lake with light blue water formed by the reaction between rainwater and the soil of former kaolin mining pits. The trip continued to Tanjung Tinggi Beach, one of the filming locations for the famous movies “Laskar Pelangi” and “Sang Pemimpi.” At this beach, the participants engaged in Capacity Building activities through various games designed to enhance team cohesion and cooperation.

The event continued with a social evening at the Sheraton Belitung Resort. A fashion show, singing, and door prizes enlivened the evening. The fashion show was participated in by eight teams, each representing different departments and the dean’s office, with the Dean’s Office/PAF being crowned as the first-place winner, the Department of Mechanical Engineering as the second-place winner, and the Department of Chemical Engineering as the third-place winner.

In his remarks during the social evening, FTUI Dean Prof. Heri Hermansyah emphasized the importance of unity and cohesion in building a better FTUI. “We are like a single entity; if one part is missing, it cannot be whole. Hopefully, in the future, FTUI will continue to excel and make an impact.”

The next day, the Capacity Building activities continued with an Island Hopping event, exploring several of Belitung’s exotic islands, including Pasir Island, Kelayang Island, Kepayang Island, and Lengkuas Island. UNESCO Global Geopark recognises Some of these islands as geosites due to their unique geological features, such as the giant granite rocks that adorn their beaches.

Lengkuas Island, with its iconic lighthouse, was also one of the highlight destinations of this trip. Although it has no connection to the plant “lengkuas” (galangal), the island is named as such due to the local population’s difficulty pronouncing the term “Lighthouse.” On the third day, the group shopped for souvenirs before finally heading to the airport to return to Jakarta. The 2024 Capacity Building event is expected to strengthen the relationships and cooperation among FTUI’s educational staff while also serving as a moment to rekindle the spirit of togetherness.
