The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) organized a Workshop for Educational Laboratory Staff (PLP) and Laboratory Technicians, held at the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, IDE Building, FTUI on Monday (April 21). The workshop aimed to develop Workload Analysis (ABK) and Job Analysis (Anjab) as part of the faculty’s effort to optimize the laboratory personnel’s structure in alignment with each work unit’s specific needs.
The workshop featured Mr. Ahmad Ashari, a First Expert PLP from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (DTMM) FTUI, as the keynote speaker. He is also a member of the Testing Division at the LP520 IDN DTMM FTUI Materials Testing Laboratory (ISO 17025) and a Technical Expert for the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya).
In his presentation, Mr. Ahmad Ashari discussed the strategic role of PLP in supporting the three pillars of higher education (Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi). He covered the scope of duties, career pathways, and strategies for PLP’s continuous professional development.
He further elaborated on technical aspects of laboratory management, including maintenance, upkeep, and operation of equipment according to the quality standards of SNI ISO/IEC 17025:2008. Emphasis was placed on the importance of data traceability, test results accuracy, and well-documented governance as integral parts of a modern laboratory management system.
Beyond theoretical understanding, the workshop also included practical sessions, during which participants received training on how to develop Workload Analysis (ABK), Job Analysis (Anjab), work forms, Work Instructions (IK), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This activity served as a platform to assess the actual demand for laboratory personnel and enhance laboratory staff’s readiness to meet increasingly complex job requirements and evolving quality standards.
Dr.-Ing. Ir. Ova Candra Dewi, S.T., M.Sc., GP, IPU., FTUI’s Human Resources Manager, stated, “Through this workshop, we hope not only to update the personnel database of laboratory staff but also to produce job analyses tailored to the unique characteristics of each laboratory. Furthermore, functional position mapping for PLP is essential for future human resources planning, including identifying relevant training needs. It is hoped that this initiative will improve the performance of reliable and professional human resources to support the implementation of higher education’s three core missions: education, research, and community service.”
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the event, saying, “This activity not only enhances the technical and administrative understanding of laboratory staff but also represents a systematic effort to build an efficient, needs-based organizational structure for our laboratories. Through the development of Workload and Job Analysis, we hope to obtain a more accurate and proportional map of laboratory personnel needs that aligns with the evolving dynamics of academic and research activities.”
