FTUI Hosts the 5th JCC UI JICA, Developing Cybersecurity Professionals

On September 17, the 5th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC): UI-JICA Project on Human Resources Development for Cybersecurity Professionals took place in the Senate Room, Dean’s Building of FTUI. The event was attended by 31 participants from various parties, both from Indonesia and Japan.

The series of events opened with remarks from Dr. Eng. Arief Udhiarto, S.T., M.T., Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at FTUI. “The collaboration between UI and JICA not only strengthens cybersecurity capabilities in Indonesia but also promotes global knowledge exchange. This partnership is crucial to keep pace with rapid technological advancements while ensuring we remain at the forefront of innovation and security,” he stated.

Ir. Hedi Muhammad Idris, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the Professional Development and Certification Center, also conveyed in his speech, “This project is an initial step in building a strong cybersecurity ecosystem in Indonesia. By equipping our professionals with the right skills and knowledge, we are laying the foundation for a more secure and resilient digital infrastructure in the future.”

Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Acting Dean of FTUI, expressed, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to developing cybersecurity professionals capable of addressing security challenges at both local and global levels. We need to continue expanding these efforts, not only for Indonesia’s benefit but also to contribute to digital resilience in the ASEAN region.”

During the event, presentations were delivered by representatives from the Japanese Embassy, including Shimoyama Yuji, and Dr. Ruki Harwahyu from the Electrical Engineering Department at FTUI, who outlined the idCARE.UI activities, including developments and achievements. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Salman also shared insights on the progress and accomplishments of the JICA project, which includes collaboration with Keio University and various activities in Indonesia.

The discussion continued with an emphasis on the importance of financial sustainability for idCARE and collaboration opportunities with ASEAN countries to provide quality training. Rudi Lumanto, Chairman of CSIRT.ID and idNSA suggested that students from other universities should be given the opportunity to obtain certificates from UI, thereby enhancing the visibility of the program.

Hiroyuki Ide, Senior Advisor to JICA, presented plans for project completion, focusing on ensuring the project’s sustainability independently in the future. During the discussion session, participants from various backgrounds shared their views on the future of cybersecurity education and potential new collaborations.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kalamullah Ramli emphasized the need to prepare professional human resources in the field of cybersecurity to support digital government initiatives. “As the digital landscape continues to evolve, it is crucial to have well-trained professionals to safeguard our cybersecurity boundaries. Ongoing partnerships with JICA ensure that we can produce the talent needed to meet the challenges in this field.”

This meeting is expected to strengthen the commitment of UI and JICA in building resilient cybersecurity professionals for Indonesia while ensuring the sustainability of the project in the future.
