On Tuesday (17/9), the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) inaugurated a new Smart Classroom as a token of appreciation for the exceptional contributions of the Class of 1984 alumni. The inauguration, held at the Smart Meeting Room, FTUI Dean’s Building, was part of the 40th-anniversary celebration of the ’84 cohort.
The Smart Classroom, located in Room S301 on the first floor of the S Building, was revitalized thanks to a donation of Rp330,000,000 from the Class of 1984 alumni. This facility is equipped with advanced technology to support more effective and interactive learning processes. With the presence of this Smart Classroom, it is expected to create a more dynamic and enjoyable learning environment for students.
In his speech, the Chairperson of the 40th Anniversary Reunion Committee of FTUI’s Class of 1984 stated that the initiative to build the Smart Classroom originated from discussions held during the Teknik Hore 2023 event. “The spirit of collaboration within the ’84 alumni group successfully brought this Smart Classroom donation to life,” he said.
Echoing these sentiments, the Chairperson of Iluni FTUI, Farrizky Astrawinata, also expressed his deep gratitude to the Class of 1984 alumni. “This is tangible proof of the collaboration between alumni and the faculty. We hope that this Smart Classroom will greatly benefit the students,” he said.
The contributions of FTUI alumni to their alma mater have always been commendable. In addition to the Smart Classroom, alumni have made numerous other valuable contributions, such as upgrading classroom facilities, improving the campus cafeteria, and organizing parking spaces. This demonstrates the strong sense of care and dedication alumni have for the progress of the faculty.
It is hoped that the establishment of this Smart Classroom will motivate future cohorts to also contribute to their alma mater. “We hope the great example set by the Class of 1984 can inspire subsequent classes,” said the Chairperson of Iluni FTUI.
One of the primary goals of building the Smart Classroom is to create a conducive learning environment for students. With comprehensive and modern facilities, students can learn more effectively and efficiently. Moreover, the Smart Classroom can also be used for various other academic activities, such as seminars, workshops, and group discussions.
The technology used in this Smart Classroom is diverse, including interactive projectors, digital whiteboards, and an advanced audio-visual system. With these technologies, lecturers can deliver material more engagingly and interactively, ensuring that students remain attentive and do not easily get bored.
Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Acting Dean of FTUI, stated, “With the rapid development of technology, the ability to adapt to changes is becoming increasingly important. This Smart Classroom is expected to prepare FTUI students to face the challenges of the digital era.”
The inauguration of the Smart Classroom is a testament to the strong collaboration between alumni and the faculty. Moving forward, it is hoped that this collaboration will continue and produce various other innovations that can benefit society. It is also expected that FTUI students will make optimal use of the Smart Classroom. With adequate facilities, students are anticipated to achieve higher levels of success and become highly qualified graduates.
