FTUI Inaugurates the 27th and 28th Smart Classrooms, Demonstrating Its Commitment to Innovative Digital Learning

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), officially inaugurated two new Smart Classrooms—rooms S404 and S601—made possible through the contribution of FTUI Alumni from the Class of 1989 and the FUSI Foundation. This inauguration marks a significant milestone in FTUI’s effort to create a modern, adaptive, interactive, and digital learning environment. The event, held at the S Building lobby of FTUI (08/02), was attended by FTUI leaders, department heads, and representatives from the Class of 1989 alumni.

To date, FTUI has established 28 of the 60 targeted Smart Classrooms. On this occasion, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of FTUI, expressed his appreciation to the alumni and FUSI Foundation for supporting the Smart Classrooms.
“Today, we proudly inaugurate the 27th and 28th Smart Classrooms—rooms S404 and S601—which are part of the legacy of FTUI Alumni Class of 1989 and FUSI Foundation. I want to extend my highest appreciation for their unity, collaboration, and dedication to developing our beloved alma mater,” said Prof. Kemas.

These Smart Classrooms support technology-based learning, enabling students and lecturers to interact in a more dynamic and innovative educational environment. They are equipped with advanced technology, including modern audiovisual systems, interactive screens, and high-speed internet access, encouraging collaborative and creative teaching methods.

The contributions from the FTUI Alumni Class of 1989 and FUSI Foundation are not only physical renovations but also a symbol of their commitment to advancing education.
“These contributions are crucial in making UI an excellent university that not only produces the best graduates but also builds a thriving, empowered, and cultured academic ecosystem,” added Prof. Kemas.

Mr. Achmadsyah Fauzi, a representative of FTUI Alumni Class of 1989, stated that supporting the development of Smart Classrooms is a form of moral responsibility to the alma mater. “We believe that quality education will produce future generations of excellence. This contribution is a small part of our effort to help FTUI students be better prepared to face the challenges of the digital era,” said Mr. Fauzi.

Meanwhile, Mr. Askar Triwiyanto, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FUSI Foundation, hopes that these Smart Classrooms will inspire students to explore their academic potential. “We want to create comfortable learning spaces and encourage creativity and innovation among students. May these rooms bring great benefits and spark new ideas for the nation’s progress,” he said.

With these new Smart Classrooms, FTUI hopes that students will gain a richer learning experience and be better equipped to face global challenges.
“This inauguration is not just about physical infrastructure development but also a symbol of our shared spirit in advancing education in Indonesia,” emphasized Prof. Kemas.

FTUI remains committed to improving the quality of education through innovative facilities such as Smart Classrooms. Collaboration between the university, alumni, and strategic partners will continue to be encouraged to make Universitas Indonesia a centre for education and innovation that significantly impacts society, the nation, and the world.
