FTUI Lecturer Delivers Guest Lecture at Chonnam National University, Discussing Artificial Intelligence in Materials Engineering

Dr. Ir. Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah, M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), had the honor of delivering a guest lecture at the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Chonnam National University (CNU), South Korea. This invitation was personally extended by Prof. Su-mi Hur, Head of the Computational Polymer Engineering Laboratory at CNU, as part of an academic collaboration initiative between the two universities.

In his guest lecture titled Unveiling Material Properties Through Machine Learning and Molecular Simulations, Dr. Jaka highlighted the vast potential of artificial intelligence (machine learning) and molecular simulations in accelerating research and development processes for new materials. He explained how these methods can efficiently uncover material properties, reduce laboratory experiment costs, and expedite innovation, particularly in polymers and advanced materials.

The lecture attracted significant interest from CNU students and academics, who actively participated in the Q&A session. The dynamic discussion explored topics such as the application of machine learning in materials engineering, challenges in molecular simulations, and the potential integration of these technologies in developing high-performance and environmentally friendly materials.

In addition to delivering the guest lecture, Dr. Jaka’s visit also aimed to establish academic connections between FTUI and CNU. During a meeting with Prof. Han Jong Hun, Dean of the School of Engineering at CNU, discussions covered potential collaborations in student and faculty exchange programs, joint research projects, and the possibility of a double-degree program. Prof. Han expressed keen interest in expanding CNU’s academic network with FTUI, given the shared research focus of both institutions on materials engineering and artificial intelligence.

As part of efforts to strengthen academic relations, CNU also extended opportunities for FTUI students and faculty to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. studies at Chonnam National University, supported by well-equipped research facilities and a collaborative academic environment. The entire visit was fully funded by the Computational Polymer Engineering Laboratory at CNU, reflecting their commitment to supporting international collaboration in materials science and technology.

Through this collaboration, Universitas Indonesia and Chonnam National University aim to strengthen their international research networks, open new avenues for innovation, and promote knowledge exchange in the era of AI-driven technological advancements.
