The Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) opens a Specialization in Energy and Sustainable Processes (EPB) in the 2023/2024 Academic Year. Under the Department of Chemical Engineering (DTK) FTUI, this specialization is one of three specializations that will be opened and focuses on improving the performance of policies, planning, regulation, development, exploration and processes in the renewable energy industry in order to realize national energy security that is managed by Good.
“Energy is a basic need that has an impact on economic growth and people’s welfare. Energy is not only an important production factor for economic activity and growth, but also a strategic commodity that can threaten economic activity during a crisis, especially when prices are out of control due to limited supply. Knowledge related to energy and sustainable processes is thus important to be held and shared,” said Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., Dean of FTUI.
Currently, the world is entering a period of energy transition. Starting with the Paris Agreement on climate change to keep global warming from increasing, followed up by statements from various countries to achieve a net-zero emission (NZE) position in 2050 which requires all countries to make an energy transition. Technological advances based on the concept of rapid sustainable processes can certainly reduce the cost of exploration and energy supply processes, especially for renewable energy.
Head of the FTUI Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Bambang Heru Susanto, S.T., M.T. revealed, “One of the strengths of a focus on Sustainable Energy and Processes lies in the flexibility they have. In the future, graduates of this program can work in various fields related to design in EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), as Process Engineers, implementers and managers of energy supply (such as power companies, PLN), environmental experts (decarbonization), government agencies (decision makers), lecturers and researchers as well as entrepreneurs.”
With the DTK FTUI Masters Program (S2) specializing in Sustainable Energy and Processes (EPB), it is hoped that it will produce graduates who are educated, knowledgeable and reliable in managing issues related to the exploration, supply and distribution of sustainable energy through process engineering that supports the concept and efficient, effective and sustainable process technology choices. In the future, EPB graduates will be able to contribute directly to increasing the availability of sustainable energy which is reflected in the visible alignment of policies and the use of sustainable energy and the choice of process engineering both quantitatively and qualitatively where they work.
In the 2023/2024 academic year, the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (DTK FTUI) opened three new specializations for the Masters Program. The three specializations are Sustainable Energy and Processes (EPB), Process Safety Management (MKP), and Process Intensification Technology (TIP). The addition of these three new specializations increases the number of specializations available at DTK FTUI from previously five specializations (Gas Technology, Industrial Catalysts, Environmental Protection & Work Safety, Chemical Process & Product Design, and Gas Management) to eight specializations.
Currently FTUI manages 12 master study programs, namely Multidisciplinary Masters study program in Urban Regional Planning, Multidisciplinary Masters study program in Energy Systems Engineering, Masters study program in Civil Engineering, Masters program in Environmental Engineering, Masters program in Mechanical Engineering, Masters program in Electrical Engineering, Masters program in Biomedical Technology, study program Master of Metallurgy & Materials Engineering, Master of Material Integrity Management (MIM) Study Program, Master of Architecture study program, Chemical Engineering Master study program, and Industrial Engineering Master study program.
