The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), continues to strengthen its contribution to the development of higher education in Eastern Indonesia through a strategic collaboration with Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Nusa Tenggara Barat (UNU NTB). This initiative was marked by a courtesy visit aimed at fostering ties and enhancing synergy in improving the quality of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi) on August 2.
Carrying the theme “FTUI Courtesy Visit to Enhance the Quality of the Three Pillars of UNU NTB”, the meeting brought together leaders, lecturers, and academic communities from both institutions. The event was more than just a formal visit—it represented a tangible commitment to building the quality of higher education in Indonesia, particularly in the eastern region.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., reaffirmed FTUI’s commitment to actively engaging in cross-regional collaboration as a concrete contribution to strengthening engineering education nationwide.
In his remarks, Prof. Kemas also introduced the FTUI delegation attending the event. He emphasized the importance of research grounded in local wisdom, which has long been one of UI’s focuses. According to him, Lombok and the NTB region hold immense local potential that can serve as a foundation for strategic collaboration, particularly in joint research initiatives and publications in Scopus-indexed international journals.
“We see great potential in NTB for developing locally contextualized engineering, ranging from maritime technology, renewable energy, to environmental management. FTUI is ready to support UNU NTB in enhancing academic capacity, developing engineering curricula, providing faculty training, and facilitating student mobility programs,” said Prof. Kemas.
Rector of UNU NTB, Dr. Baiq Mulianah, M.Pd.I., warmly welcomed the collaboration and expressed appreciation for FTUI’s support in developing a high-quality engineering education ecosystem in NTB.
“This collaboration with FTUI marks a strategic step for UNU NTB in developing adaptive and relevant engineering education. We hope this partnership will expand opportunities for our students and faculty to gain academic and technological exposure from Indonesia’s leading engineering institution,” said Dr. Baiq Mulianah.
Dr. Baiq Mulianah also shared the achievements of UNU NTB, which currently offers 11 study programs, including Business Law, with 10 of them already accredited as “Very Good”. In the near future, UNU NTB plans to open an Architecture program to respond to the needs of the NTB community.
As one of the top engineering faculties in Indonesia—consistently achieving national and global recognition—FTUI continues to expand its collaborative network with higher education institutions across the country. This collaboration stands as a concrete manifestation of FTUI’s commitment to advancing inclusive, equitable, and impactful higher education in Indonesia.
