The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), continues to expand its international network to enhance the quality of education, research, and global academic mobility. This commitment was demonstrated through an official visit by Yonsei University to the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, on Wednesday (January 7).
The visit was received by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, and attended by FTUI leaders and faculty members, including Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr.-Ing. Ir. Ova Candra Dewi, S.T., M.Sc., GP, IPU., as well as faculty representatives from various departments, including DTMM, DTK, and DTM. From Yonsei University, the meeting involved representatives from the College of Engineering, which oversees seven schools and ten departments and is recognized for its strong global reputation.
During the meeting, Yonsei University presented its institutional profile as one of the world’s leading universities, ranked 50th globally, 21st in the THE Impact Rankings, and supported by substantial research funding, with average research funding per professor exceeding USD 1 million. This reflects Yonsei University’s highly conducive research ecosystem for international collaboration.
FTUI and Yonsei University have previously established a foundation for collaboration through a General Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Student Exchange Agreement at the university level. Collaborative implementation has also been underway, including a student collaborative team project in 2024 in the form of a Capstone Design Project, where students from both institutions formed cross-national teams to research and discuss Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues. This activity was complemented by hands-on ESG initiatives for children through a school managed by the Jakarta Happy Center.
“Yonsei University has a very strong education and research ecosystem, particularly in encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration and student engagement with global issues such as ESG. Through this meeting, FTUI aims to build more concrete and sustainable cooperation, not only at the level of formal agreements, but also in the implementation of academic programs, joint research, and student mobility,” explained Prof. Dalhar.
Looking ahead, both institutions discussed several potential areas for strategic collaboration. These include outbound student programs for FTUI students, participation of international students in Yonsei University’s RISE-Y Program—a tuition-free inbound program complemented by a stipend—as well as the strengthening of joint research collaboration across various engineering disciplines.
Through this visit, FTUI reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education, expanding student and faculty mobility, and strengthening academic contributions to addressing global challenges through collaboration with world-class universities.
